New Baptist Neighborhood Hospital Planned for Rigsby Community

San Antonio, TX – Extending its promise to provide neighborhood emergency care close to home, the Baptist Health System will build a new acute-care facility to bring emergency services to patients in the Rigsby neighborhood on the east side of San Antonio.

“Our newest neighborhood hospital will once again expand healthcare access in San Antonio,” said Matt Stone, Baptist Health System Group CEO. “By strategically building our 10th location in the Rigsby area, we are not only enhancing convenience but also seamlessly connecting emergency care to our broader Baptist health system. This initiative ensures that patients receive timely, high-quality care in their neighborhoods while facilitating a smooth transition to more specialized services when needed.”

The nearly 11,000-square-foot Emergency Department is scheduled to open in summer of 2025 at 2102 Semlinger Road, bringing exceptional care to people who work and live nearby. The facility is a joint-venture partnership between Baptist Health System and Emerus, the nation’s leader in building and operating small-format hospitals.

Baptist Neighborhood Hospital-Rigsby will have 10 examination rooms and one triage room, while providing a wide range of emergency services. It will operate 24-hours-a-day, 365-days-a-year. The facility will be staffed by emergency medicine physicians, experienced nurses and clinical specialists dedicated to providing the same level of compassionate, personalized care that have made Baptist Health System one of the nation’s leading healthcare systems.

Small-format medical facilities like the one planned for Rigsby provide similar service lines as traditional hospitals, but with a smaller footprint. They offer patients speed, convenience, ease of access and value-based, high-quality compassionate care. Patients have access to enhanced specialty care through direct integration with Baptist Health System’s large network of acute-care hospitals and specialists.

Baptist Neighborhood Hospitals began serving San Antonio patients in 2011, when the first location opened on the south side. Today, the network includes hospitals in Westover Hills, Kelly, Schertz, Thousand Oaks, Hausman, Overlook and Zarzamora, as well as emergency departments in Shavano Park and Converse.

Vic Schmerbeck, CEO of Emerus, credits Baptist Health System leadership and its teams for the success of the healthcare model, which Emerus created and launched in 2006. “We are excited to again combine our experience with the medical expertise and commitment to excellence we share with the Baptist Health System,” he said. “We are great partners in a shared vision of providing the right care at the right time – at the right place and at the right cost.”
