News

On Thursday, May 2, ASPIRA of New York hosted its 2024 annual Circle of Achiever's Gala at the prestigious 583 Park Avenue, celebrating another year of outstanding academic achievement and leadership among Latino youth. The Gala spotlighted the exceptional accomplishments of young leaders and awarded 42 deserving students with scholarships, furthering their educational endeavors and leadership potential.

Since 1961, ASPIRA of New York, now under the leadership of CEO Carmen Diaz-Malvido, continues its commitment  to advocate and improve educational opportunities for the   Latino communities in New York City. The Gala not only served as a platform to honor remarkable young talents but also as an opportunity for companies, nonprofits, and government agencies to reinforce their commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Scott Krohn, SVP & Treasurer of Verizon, served as the Corporate Chair for the event. Scott emphasized the importance of diversity in today’s corporate world during his inspiring opening remarks. The event saw significant participation from major corporate entities including Bank of China U.S.A., who have been  supporters of ASPIRA’s mission for almost a decade.

Highlighting the BOC U.S.A.’s long-term commitment to  community and education, senior executives from the Corporate Banking and Financial Institution Departments were present, demonstrating the event’s significance to the Bank's corporate agenda. Their presence underscored the Bank’s strategic commitment to "Global Banking with a Local Heart."

The Gala provided a platform for BOC U.S.A. to contribute meaningfully to the local community, enabling the Bank to earn CRA credits through the Community Reinvestment Act. BOC U.S.A.’s involvement in the Circle of Achievers Gala is a testament to its dedication to both community investment and the advancement of educational opportunities for Latino youth. It showcases how corporate responsibility and strategic business relationships can synergistically benefit society.

Supporting ASPIRA of New York perfectly aligns with the Bank’s commitment to integrate deeply into its local communities while maintaining its global banking ethos. Our ongoing support for ASPIRA not only aids in local community development but also fortifies the Bank's business relationships with our longstanding VIP corporate client Verizon.
