Your Career Options

Your Career Options

Your Career Options: If you are unhappy in your current career, then what are your career options? This article sets out to make your career options very clear.

  • Do nothing. There is always the option to do nothing. However, there is a reason you are reading this article. Perhaps you have already spent too long doing nothing. Remember that nothing changes if nothing changes.
  • Move to a new role in your existing company. If you work for a larger company, keep an eye out for internal job opportunities. The benefit of moving to a new role in an existing company is that you don’t necessarily need the skills from the start. As long as you have made contacts with the right people , then a fantastic opportunity could be right in front of you. You just need to have the confidence to talk to your manager and then connect with the hiring manager and make a good first impression.
  • Make positive changes to your existing job. There are lots of ways in which you may be able to enhance or modify your current job to more closely match what you want. Talk to your manager. Ask for a pay rise. Explore new opportunities. Spend time with other departments. Complete training. Ask for a coach/ mentor.
  • Move to a new company in a similar role. If you really enjoy your current role but perhaps you don’t enjoy certain aspects of the job then perhaps its time to start looking at a new company. If this is the case, then it is time to spruce up your CV and start looking at other companies you would like to work for.
  • Reinvent your career and make a career change. This is the big one. If you know you are not happy in your current career and you know you need to make a change, then it is time to do something about it.
