Liberals Lecture - Conservatives Communicate

Liberals are “generally more open-minded in their pursuit of creativity, novelty, and diversity, whereas Conservatives’ lives are more orderly, conventional, and neat"

• Liberals tend to score higher on openness to experience and lower on conscientiousness than conservatives on the famous Big Five personality dimensions. People who test higher on openness to experience use more tentative words and longer words and phrases.
• Conservatives tend to score higher than liberals on need for closure, so they generally lean towards reducing ambiguity and uncertainty. People who tend to test high on conscientiousness seem to prefer using nouns over verbs and adjectives, because they convey more certainty. They also prefer shorter and clearer sentences.
• So here's what that means "in a nutshell": Conservative leaning people tend to speak and respond much more favorably to shorter and clearer sentences. Liberal leaning people tend to speak and respond much more favorably to compound sentences with multiple clauses!
