Why should all educators care about the Science of Reading?

Why should all educators care about the Science of Reading?

Last month, you learned that building knowledge helps students retain more of what they learned. Now we’re going to dive into the science of reading.

The science of reading is a body of research-backed best practices for teaching reading and writing. We hope that all teachers see how setting the stage for literacy success benefits students in all subjects.

The science of reading is critical for educators across all grade levels. Don’t believe us? Watch Beyond Reading Foundations to understand what the recent research says about the development of language comprehension over time, what it means for your students, and why it matters.

Read The Science of Reading and Wit & Wisdom®; the first in a series of blogs that offers a brief history of the science of reading and previews later posts that tie the science of reading research to the work of Wit & Wisdom educators.

Would you rather listen to a podcast to learn more about the science of reading? Check out this playlist from the Melissa & Lori Love Literacy podcast. Hear from authorities on the subject, such as Natalie Wexler, Louisa Motes, Emily Hanford, and others, talk about what the science of reading is—and is not—and why it is so important.

Next month, we focus on instructional routines across all Great Minds® curricula. Learn more about how our consistent teaching routines help build knowledge for all.

Best,

The Great Minds Team

P.S. If you haven’t done so already, please sign up for our monthly product newsletters. Each month, you’ll receive information about events, webinars, new blogs, and more about Eureka Math® and Eureka Math²®, Wit & Wisdom®, or PhD Science®.
