Welcoming Our Summer Analysts and Associates

Welcoming Our Summer Analysts and Associates

As we welcome many of our summer analysts and associates around the world, here's the message I sent to them with a few pieces of advice:

Welcome to Goldman Sachs, on behalf of all of our people around the world. I don’t need to tell you what a change-filled year it has been so far, and as we continue to navigate this dynamic and challenging environment, I am focused on our people, including all of you at an important time in your academic and professional journey.

As you join the firm, you will have an opportunity to forge close bonds with your colleagues and experience first-hand our unique culture of collaboration, innovation and apprenticeship. Around the world, our teams build on our deeply embedded culture that underpins our success and continues to differentiate Goldman Sachs. Our core values of client service, excellence, partnership and integrity shape and inform everything that we do, from our strategic decisions to how we work with each other and our clients. I am honored to uphold these values alongside our people – including all of you – each and every day as we continue to grow our leading businesses, serve our clients and execute on the significant opportunities ahead.

I am also eager to hear your perspectives and insights. I hope that in the weeks ahead, you learn as much from your Goldman Sachs colleagues as we do from you.

With that said, I wanted to share a few thoughts with you to help you make the most of your internship:

There’s no substitute for showing up. The only way we can drive progress for our clients and communities is to be present and engaged. Treat every interaction – whether in-person, or via video, call or e-mail – as an opportunity to contribute.

  • Don’t be in a hurry, it’s a journey. Adopt a long-term mindset. There’s always something to learn from every experience, and you’ll come out stronger for taking the time to pause and reflect along the way.
  • Build community. We all love being on a winning team, but what's even more fulfilling is to be on a team that looks out for each other and helps everyone feel like they belong. You’ll see for yourself that our culture thrives when we come together, collaborate and listen to and learn from each other.
  • Rely on your inner compass. During times of change, the best way to get your bearings is to find your true north. For our firm, that means keeping our sights set on our shared purpose and values.
  • Invest in your wellbeing. Our firm is only as resilient as our people. That means we have to protect our people’s physical and mental well-being and support them as they manage their personal and professional responsibilities.

Thanks for joining us this summer – I look forward to connecting with many of you over the next few weeks.
