Supporting the diverse, multi-skilled teams powering the modern workplace

Most modern workplaces now rely on having very diverse, multi-skilled teams that can combine the collective capabilities of men, women, people of different cultural heritage, younger and older workers to do a brilliant job. But simply  having such a team doesn’t doesn’t guarantee performance. You have to also ensure that all the members of the team are treated respectfully, treated fairly and valued. 


They need to have a sense of belonging, so that they are confident and inspired and they can contribute. That’s where the real magic happens, and there’s a real responsibility on companies to not only look at the numbers, but to help teams shine and support their capabilities. 


What’s exciting about Bloomberg Equality, which also makes me incredibly proud to work for this company, is that the significant investment in a global platform to helps other companies and individuals to do just that. It’s such an important contribution. Those who lead teams need to understand what other businesses are doing. They need to hear people speaking openly and transparently about challenges they face, and how they’ve overcome them. And they need other companies to share their data, which we champion. 


When companies honestly talk about where they are now, and what their goals are, it helps build a better world, and build purpose into performance. For example, when you look at the last year and Covid-19, the workplace has lost a lot of ground in a lot of areas. The impact that Covid has had on the female workforce is really worrying. Having a platform that helps bring transparency to data provides an opportunity to understand what’s happening and address it head on.
