LONDON, Sept. 05 -- World’s Largest Steel Companies To Discuss Global Flat Steel Market In Istanbul
This year the sixth-anniversary edition of the Kallanish Commodities Flat Steel conference, will take place in Istanbul on 17 October, with Yıldız Demir Çelik as the diamond sponsor. The location is significant, given Turkey holds substantial sway in shaping steel trade dynamics, thank to its large involvement in ferrous import and export markets.

“Global steel demand is projected to see only a small rebound in 2024 as economies continue to grapple with the Ukraine war impact, high inflation, high costs and monetary tightening,” comments Adam Smith , global editor at Kallanish Steel. “The geopolitical scenario has deteriorated further and the investment climate remains shaky amid fears of conflict escalation in the Middle East. Interest rate reductions in mature economies are not seen giving much impetus to steel demand.”
China’s economy, meanwhile, continues to disappoint and its exports are registering new highs this year, while its prices tank to multi-year lows. This has accelerated global trade case action, as expected. “Where does the steel industry go from here amid the global push for decarbonisation? This and other market questions will be discussed at the conference,” adds Bijan Farhangi , Kallanish’s event director.
Flat Steel 2024 will debate and analyse the most pressing factors impacting the global flat steel business, with a view to giving participants some clarity on what to expect in the coming business cycles.
