National Career Development Month

As part of National Career Development Month, we’re talking to our leaders about how they’ve developed and grown throughout their Codex journey! Concluding this week, we talk to Megan, our EPM USA Principal Consultant…

Upon graduation, Meg considered her options – start a career in recruitment or continue her studies at master’s level. Not quite ready to commit herself to one route, she decided to undertake a master’s degree and try self-employment at the same time. However, as the course drew to an end and she realised she was feeling unsatisfied in her line of work, Meg re-evaluated her dreams and took her first step into the recruitment world of Codex.

Meg admits that her first year in the industry was tough – it took some time to find the markets she was most suited to and until she did, she worried recruitment wouldn’t work out for her after all. It’s fair to say she was wrong – after finding her footing Meg has been promoted three times, and even twice in one year! Meg hasn’t slowed down her pace, with another promotion to Team Leader imminently approaching. She now takes on a managerial role in her work, something that she says is her biggest personal achievement and a milestone during her time at Codex. Meg now looks forward to watching her team grow in the future.

Meg places a lot of importance in knowing yourself, being aware of your strengths and weaknesses and taking the time to reflect upon them and grow as a result. A part of knowing yourself means asking questions in order to learn. Meg believes in constantly asking questions, something she did herself upon joining Codex and something she encourages all new starters to do. Being honest about areas you need help with is just as important as knowing your strengths and goals. It's this mindset that has allowed Meg to progress so far through the company – and next year she moves to New York to help build Codex’s US business!

Meg expressed her gratitude to Codex and believes that without the constant support and guidance she is shown in the company she wouldn’t have lasted beyond a year in the industry. She feels incredibly lucky to have management that understand and respect how she works, but most of all who recognise effort, celebrate success and breed support. As much as everyone has their individual goals and achievements, at Codex, we are all equally as happy for others!

Meg’s top tip working in recruitment: You have to be resilient and willing to put in the hard work! Recruitment isn’t for everyone but it is one of the few careers where you get out exactly what you put in. Find a company that supports you, values you, and respects you. Find a company that you believe in and want to be a part of – it makes the hard times a whole lot easier!

For National Career Development Month, we are talking to our team about how they’ve progressed through their careers here at Codex. We are always on the lookout for motivated and positive individuals to join our growing team! We offer extensive training and development opportunities to the right candidates and we are hiring now!

Best manager ever!!
