MLK Day Reflections from Our Team

MLK Day Reflections from Our Team

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day today, we are reflecting on his teachings and principles, which continue to inspire positive change and unity in our world. Some of our team members have shared their thoughts on how they apply Dr. King's values in their daily lives, including at work.

Raven Jones - Talent Acquisition Manager, University Relations & Partnerships

MLK pleaded for justice, compassion, and equality providing a model for effective social activism. Raven Jones, our Talent Acquisition Manager, strives to follow Dr. King's example of being a servant leader. Working within recruitment, Raven sees the opportunity to diversify our workforce, create learning opportunities, and enrich our company culture by embracing individuals with diverse backgrounds, beliefs, and customs.

Elice Chambers - Channel Marketing Manager:

Elice Chambers, one of our Channel Marketing Managers, finds guidance in two of her favorite MLK quotes, "My place is in the sunlight of opportunity" and "It is always the right time to do the right thing." These quotes inspire her to see each day as a new opportunity. Elice emphasized the importance of character, a reoccurring theme in MLK's speeches. Adversity builds character, and Elice celebrates Dr. King's life by maintaining good character.

Karen Richard MBA - Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer

Karen Richard, our Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer focusing on DEI and Talent Management, looks forward each year to honoring Dr. King. She acknowledges his ability to bring people from all walks of life together and emphasizes the timeless message that only love can drive out hate.

"Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that."

As we take a moment to reflect on these insights, we aim to carry Dr. King's teachings forward by fostering a workplace and world that embraces diversity, character, and love. We wish you a meaningful Martin Luther King Jr. Day!

I did a report on Fredrick Douglas in middle school. To this day I remember so much about his part in our nation's history. He was the Martin Luther King in his era.
