Mindful Tools for the Workplace

Have you ever been so passionate about something that all you can do is visualize how to turn your dream into a reality? I constantly have ideas and visions that I am inspired to bring to life. It can be exhausting at times but also extremely rewarding. Words cannot describe how I feel when seeing my friend, Jim White, share how he is using Zendoway Cubes in his daily work to help a new generation of business leaders find their passion.

Zendoway cubes were born out of my desire to teach breathing as a tool to self-soothe in my kids’ schools. In challenging moments, taking a breath helps ground us and calm anxiety or stress, and it is an essential life skill for kids and adults. What started as a prototype to introduce breathing has now morphed into 14 different cubes with more uses than I had even imagined. As a professor, Jim uses the cubes as conversation starters in his office as he counsels his students. The vision is spreading, and his colleagues and students have also begun using them. It truly warms my heart that Jim is connecting with others and making a difference using my cubes.

Below are other ways you can use the cubes:

  • Ice Breakers: Planning an ice breaker for a meeting doesn’t have to be challenging. When armed with a mindful tool like Zendoway cubes, you can network and converse in a more meaningful way. “Positivity” is a great cube for this with sides like “Share 3 things you feel grateful for today,” and Describe a recent win” – you can be sure to start the meeting on the right foot, and encourage people to use gratitude and optimism in every situation.
  • Desk Reminders: When you are working hard to meet deadlines and complete tasks, it can be hard to remember to pause and practice mindfulness throughout the day to avoid burnout. Try keeping a cube like “Feelings” on your desk. With prompts like “I am proud…” and “I wonder…,” you can take inventory of your mental space throughout the day and ensure you are working from a place of positivity.
  • Conflict Resolution: Conflict is inevitable, no matter how positive or grateful your team is. The breathing cube comprises different breathing exercises to help calm your team before or during stressful situations. Because they are made of stress ball foam, you can even squeeze to relieve tension. The next time your team is at a crossroads, reach for a Zendoway cube first!
  • Conversation Starters: If you’d like to follow Jim’s lead, the cubes are great for initiating conversation. Because each side has a different prompt or question, you can easily roll like a die to come up with a conversation topic. Jim uses them with college students who visit him, or you can simply keep in your office as a fun way to get to know the people who stop by. It makes work a bit more personal and allows you to develop more personal relationships with your team. “Gratitude” is a great cube to use with this, featuring sides like “A highlight from today is…” and “A reason I am excited for next week is…”
  • Fun Activities for Kids: If you are in need of a fun, mindful game to play with your kids, try using “Nourishment.” Who says food can’t be fun? This cube teaches kids to explore food in a way that connects with their mind. With prompts like “Design a smiley face with your food” and “Try a new fruit or vegetable. How did it taste and feel?” kids can discover new tastes and have a blast doing it.
