Nadia O’Dea is leading some incredible sustainability initiatives at CoStar Group’s growing Richmond campus. We’re setting a new standard in environmental responsibility and employee well-being, so I wanted to share nine highlights I’m most excited about:
- Onsite Renewable Energy Generation: Our campus will be powered by state-of-the-art photovoltaic panels embedded in the building façade, canopies, and rooftops, generating approximately 1,300,000 Kwh/yr—equivalent to the annual energy usage of 130 homes.
- LEED Platinum New Construction: With a current tracking of 85 points, we're on the path to achieving LEED Platinum certification. This reflects our commitment to the highest standards in energy efficiency and environmental design.
- Pursuing WELL Platinum Certification: Our dedication to creating a healthy workplace is evident as we track 85 points towards WELL Platinum certification too. Features like a 25,000 SF fitness center and individual thermal controls ensure a comfortable and productive environment for our employees.
- Innovative Water Management: Our site includes two tanks that retain a total of 24,000 gallons of stormwater for irrigation and sustainable water use.
- Biophilic Design: Connecting with nature is integral to our design, with accessible outdoor green spaces and 16' slab-to-slab ceiling heights that enhance daylight access and views.
- Expansive Green Spaces and Outdoor Terraces: Our campus will feature over 107,000 SF of green spaces featuring native and restorative plantings and 50,000 SF of occupiable outdoor roof terraces.
- Commitment to Net Zero: Aligning with CoStar Group’s corporate ESG goals, we're committed to achieving net zero through the use of offsite renewables like wind and solar power.
- Promoting Sustainable Transportation: We already support eco-friendly commuting with generous benefits for mass transit use, and plan to add 148 bike and scooter spaces, 80 electric vehicle chargers with 208 parking spaces, and a local staff circulator to our Richmond campus.
- Advanced Air Purification: Our energy recovery ventilators and air handling units are equipped with high-efficiency filters (MERV 8 to MERV 15), ensuring clean and healthy indoor air for everyone.
