An Interview with the Bulls' 2022-23 Inside Sales Class

Applications for the 2023-24 Inside Sales Program are now open on Bulls.com

This month, the Bulls opened applications for its 2023-24 Inside Sales Program, a yearlong program that offers those looking to enter the sports industry an opportunity to support the team's Ticket Sales department in their efforts to create legendary experiences for current and prospective fans. Participants will also have the chance to network interdepartmentally and shadow various department leads to learn more about the business of basketball.

Recruitment efforts for the program are focused on identifying people who are passionate about sports and eager to learn the ins and outs of ticket sales, with or without previous sales experience. Through the program, Bulls Inside Sales representatives will receive hands-on, comprehensive training before connecting with fans via email, in-person and over the phone to share and sell tailored ticket products and services offered by the Bulls.

In this role, ticket representatives will implement sales and service best practices, network, prospect, generate sales leads, capture data, attend events, work games, participate and lead sales meetings, collaborate across departments and more.

We sat down with our current Inside Sales class to learn more about their journey to the Bulls and what they've enjoyed about the program thus far -

Darrian Dorrough: "One of the classes I took while studying for my master's degree required me to research job opportunities in sports. I saw a post about the program and knew I wanted to apply. COVID slowed down the application process, but I never forgot about it. Selling with the Bulls has given me the opportunity to grow my interpersonal and networking skills and facilitate experiences for fans that build bonds and create lasting memories."

Brian Weber: "Sales was something I considered, but it wasn't at the top of the list for me. I just knew I wanted to work for the Bulls. Once I learned more about the program during the interview process, I felt more comfortable applying even though I didn't have any sales experience. Kim, the program lead, made sure we got the hands-on training we needed to feel prepared for our first call, which I really appreciated.

Emma Whitehead: "I never thought I'd be in sales, but this program feels like much more than just selling tickets, it's about creating experiences. There are a lot of misconceptions about what being in sales looks like, but I don't feel like just a salesperson. I feel like I'm making connections with our fans. Also, a lot of organizations speak highly of their office culture, but don't live up to it. That's not the case here."

Abigail Rendall: "Besides the people and office culture, which is amazing, I've enjoyed learning about the sales process - my last sales job didn't have one. Learning about the Bulls' sales process has helped me feel more comfortable and prepared when making a sale and I look forward to feeling even more confident as we get further into the season."

Sam Kritikos: "I love that the sales process at the Bulls really focuses on making connections and strengthening relationships with our fans. I've gotten the chance to get to know our fanbase, find common ground and identify experiences they'll love. That's been fun and so far my favorite part about the program. I also love giving tours of the United Center. It brings me back to my days as a college tour guide!"

McKenzie Moorhead: "I subscribed to NBA League Pass and therefore had exclusive access to Bulls halftime shows, performances and activations during the quarter breaks, etc. I noticed that the team was always looking for new ways to connect with and entertain fans. I was drawn to that and knew I wanted to be a part of it. I missed the deadline for the Business Rotational Program, but when I got a call from HR and learned more about what the Inside Sales Program entailed, I was absolutely hooked."

Santiago Medina, MBA: "I've always loved that sales gave me a chance to connect with people from all walks of life. Sure, it's about metrics and revenue, but for me, I love interacting with fans and building relationships. I've known for a while that I wanted to get into the sports industry and I'm happy to be here doing something I really enjoy."

Darcy Jennings: "I never anticipated going into sales. I thought I was going down the science route with my engineering degree, but I decided that wasn't for me. Sales is similar though because it's about problem solving for the customer and seeing how you can tailor something to them, so I'm excited I get to still use that part of my brain!"

Xavier Rodriguez, MM: "All of my jobs have been in sales. So yes, I love it! There's an art to it - getting to know people, how to cater the pitch to who they are and what they like. No day is the same and sales really tests your ability to communicate and position things in an interesting way. I like that the Inside Sales Program is developmental because I know it will only strengthen my ability to sell in the future."

Previous sales experience is not required. All interested in getting hands-on experience in the sports industry are encouraged to apply. Commission, performance-based bonuses, complimentary parking and daily lunch at the United Center are available to all Inside Sales representatives in addition to complimentary tickets to all Bulls home games.
