How Allowing Mistakes Helps in Raising Future Leaders?

Mistakes are bad news, but not necessarily. Not if we take them in as learnings. Not if they happen for something greater. There’s always a bigger picture behind.

They are a requisite for greater things. For raising future leaders. Because to make the right decisions, we need to know of the wrong ones. And that’s when past mistakes come into the picture. After all, they exist only to teach and mold us.

69% of Millennials are concerned that their workplace does not develop their leadership skills. The number of women on boards of directors is only 15%.

The TGC Approach

At TGC, we believe mistakes are opportunities in disguise. We see them as crucial experiences that shape tomorrow's leaders.

Here’s how we turn these moments into valuable lessons and develop future leaders:

  • We Welcome Mistakes

We understand that mistakes happen, and will happen. They exist only to teach and mold. And so, when they do come about, we welcome them, learn, and move on. They are nothing but contents to the not-to-do list, and a part of the whole process of excelling. And excelling is what we at Gateway pursue.

  • We Invest Our Time

Time- one of the most valuable resources an organization can own, is something we cautiously invest in our employees. Just as a business requires time to transform into a fully grown empire, so does an employee. Of course, there is a limit.

Patience and the willingness to invest time are the two essential elements in building a leader of tomorrow.

The process will be slow, but the outcome would fasten many important things later.

  • The Step-Up Attitude

We always ensure that our employees have a firm step-up attitude along with the capability. So, they can fill in the big shoes when an opportunity knocks. This also makes them confident enough to take a salient decision in absence of a senior, leaving any hesitation behind.

  • Mentorship

No one answers the curiosity & question doors better than the experienced do. One of the important things mentorships teach is the ‘don’ts’.

Converting these ‘don’ts’ into new-approach ‘Dos’ is how mentorship shapes a leader. Therefore, we encourage freshers to interact as much as possible with our experienced class.

  • Cultivating Resilience

Allowing mistakes helps in cultivating resilience among employees. It’s an ability that enables them to stand firm against any risky decision making. When people are comfortable enough to take risks, and confident enough of owning to the mistakes -- there are higher chances of them thinking bigger, brighter and better.

Bringing It All Together

Mistakes shouldn’t happen, but if they do, they aren’t all bad news after all. They happen to pass a simple message, and we at Gateway have decoded it, ‘Accept, learn, own, move on.’

We start by accepting them, because there’s no learning without acceptance. When coming to investing your time in employees, it is slow, yes. But we have seen it pay off.

What’s also a must for us, is ensuring that our employees have the step-up attitude, in case an opportunity pops out of nowhere.

Mentorship plays an important part in raising a leader. It’s needed the most to understand the ‘Don’ts’. Something that only experience can teach.

When people are given the comfort of taking risks, we plant resilience in them.

The result? Bigger, better and brighter thoughts.
