PRO: What was your reaction when you got the phone call telling you you’d been selected as an honoree for the Medal of Leadership Awards?

Hill: Thanks to the new Apple voicemail feature, I read the voicemail of the missed call while taking off on a flight from Combine. I couldn't help but reflect on the long flight from Indy to LA on my career journey, from the ups and downs to the unconventional at times paths that led me here. But then it wasn't just about me. I thought about all the mentees, the aspiring young minds I've had the privilege to support along the way. Each piece of advice shared, and every lesson learned - it all came flooding back. Getting the call for this award was a moment of pride, knowing that industry leaders saw something special in me. But what truly got me was the hope that someday, one of those mentees I've crossed paths with will receive this same call. It's the circle of mentorship, the passing of the torch, that really keeps me moving forward.

PRO: What does the Rising Leader Award mean to you?

To me this award isn’t just about recognition, it’s validation for me. It means that my efforts behind-the-scenes, the late nights, early mornings, and the advice given along the way have me on the right track of making an impact in this industry. Beyond the validation, this award is also a responsibility. As a rising leader, I have a duty to continue to pave the way for those who come after me. Leading by example, inspiring others, and creating a legacy that extends beyond myself are all represented in this award.

PRO: What do you hope the legacy of the Medal of Leadership Awards will be?

I see the legacy being a catalyst for inspiration that drives each recipient to continue pushing the boundaries as leaders in sports. Most importantly, I hope the legacy is one of impact. When we think of these awards, I hope we think more than just who received them but the movements they sparked, the change they made, and the legacy they left behind.

PRO: What do you hope your legacy will be in the sports industry?

I hope it’s remembered as a voice amongst many that echoed change and progress in the sports industry. I hope my legacy is the impact I leave behind, the lives I touch, and the doors I open for others. I hope that people look back on my time, they see someone who wasn’t afraid to speak up, challenge the status quo, and advocate for those who voices might not be as loud. Beyond that, I hope my mentees I’ve guided carry on my legacy and continue to break the barriers.

PRO: What words of wisdom would you give to future Rising Leader honorees?

Stay true to yourself, your values, and your unique perspective. You were recognized for this honor because of who you are and the incredible things you’ve done to impact our industry. All leaders are not the same, so don't try to conform yourself to fit into some predetermined mold of what a leader should be. Be bold, be authentic, and be unapologetically you.

PRO: 10 years from now when you look back on this time in your career, what will you remember?

Beyond the work, I’ll remember the people. The mentors that guided me, the colleagues who inspired me, and the mentees I touched along the way. All their faces, stories, and journeys will never leave me no matter what career path my journey takes. When I look back on this time, I’ll also remember the lessons I learned and the feeling of determination as I got through the highs and lows of each step on this path to becoming the leader I want to be.

PRO: Is there a mentor or boss who has been instrumental in your career? Who are they and what was their impact?

I’ve been grateful to have many mentors and advocates throughout my career but there’s two that have been instrumental.

Esé Ighedosa was my first mentor, and she taught me something invaluable - the power of having a voice. Getting my first internship into the NFL, I was timid, hesitant to speak up for my ideas, and focused mainly on trying to be likable and blend in. But Esé changed everything for me. She showed me that my voice mattered, that it could command a room, and that it was crucial for making a name for myself in the industry. Under her mentorship, I learned to step into my own power. Esé instilled in me the courage to be more than just agreeable; she empowered me to be impactful, to make a difference, and to leave my mark.

And then there's Sophie Harlan, my boss at the Los Angeles Rams. Sophie's journey as one of the first women leaders in NFL football operations was inspiration for me. Her presence was a testament that women can thrived in this space, but she wasn't just an inspiration, she became my advocate and my mentor. She’s offered me the encouragement and support I needed to navigate challenges, both personally and professionally. Sophie not only believed in my potential but continues to actively work to help me realize it. Her support and mentorship have given me the confidence to make my own path in football.
