Ever been asked - 'what do you want out of life?'

I’ve often been asked “What do you want out of life?” and my response has always been something like, “I want to be happy and have a family and a job I like,” and it’s only until recently I realised how ubiquitous that actually is and in fact it doesn’t even mean anything.

If you look around, everybody wants to have an amazing job and financial independence but not everyone wants to suffer through 60-hour work weeks, long commutes, obnoxious paperwork, to navigate arbitrary corporate hierarchies and the blasé confines of an infinite cubicle hell. People want to be rich without the risk, without the sacrifice, without the delayed gratification necessary to accumulate wealth.

Everybody wants to be in a happy and loving relationship but not everyone is willing to go through the tough conversations, the awkward silences, the hurt feelings and the emotional drain to get there. And so they settle. They settle and wonder “What if?” for years and years and until the question morphs from “What if?” into “Was that it?”

Am I the only one who thinks there has to be more to life?

So many people, including myself are bound to the rules of society and for some reason feel as though we owe life this way of living, well we don’t. Being 28 I am becoming more aware of turning 30 and as many people may see this as being the time I should be settled down and not considering more risk taking, I feel like this the opportune time to take my learnings from my 20s and step up the risk to achieve an even greater period of my life.

So what are the things we can all do to ensure we live life to the fullest?

  • Rather than think “what if”, think “next time”. Don’t think about things you can’t change. Instead focus on the things you can action upon.
  • Create your own opportunities. You can wait for opportunities to drop in life. Or, you can go out there and create your own opportunities.
  • Be committed to your growth. The higher level of consciousness you are in, the richer your life experience.
  • Do the things you love, because life is too precious to spend it doing anything else. If you don’t enjoy something, then don’t do it.
  • Stop putting life on hold. Are you putting parts of your life on hold?Uncover it now and start working on it.

Think about it, what would your answer be if someone asked you ‘What do you want out of life?’
