Employee Spotlight: Ashleigh Ingram

Ahead of our Feb. 28 event, "Making Equity Real: Creating Career Pathways and Good Jobs in the Arts," we asked Ashleigh Ingram, an audio visual production specialist in our Office of Public Affairs, to tell us about her own career journey. Here's what she shared:

My love for the arts started when I was a kid; I wanted to make music videos. While in high school, I helped produce a newscast every day.

I went on to study Video Production at Morgan State University. Not only did I have the opportunity to learn something I was passionate about, but I was also able to do it at an HBCU enriched in culture, community, and a supportive environment that prepared me for my future.

While in college, I participated in the the Labor Department's [former] Student Career Employment Program. During the program, I worked with the Division of Creative Services team, gaining hands-on multimedia experience and understanding the importance of public service. I’m thankful for the patience, guidance, and time that the team poured into me. Not only did it help shape my career, but it also aided me in school because I could use my experiences in my studies.

After graduation, I was offered a position in Creative Services and have been extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve the public and inform them in a creative way.

As we celebrate this year’s Black History Month national theme, “African Americans and the Arts,” join the Department of Labor, Acting Secretary Julie Su, National Endowment for the Arts Chair Maria Rosario Jackson, working artists and performers, and other special guests for a conversation on the importance of good jobs, equity and job quality in the arts for Black workers.
