Changing your Recruitment Approach to Capture Great Talent
I have been a recruiter and a potential candidate, and I can say that the recruitment experience for both is not ideal. Most recruiters don’t have the time to proactively recruit—meaning, they often take the approach of posting a job and waiting for applicants to apply. Then mounds of resumes are screened through the Applicant Tracking System (ATS), which is based on keywords. The recruiter then creates a short list and starts the phone screening process prior to bringing the finalists in for in-person interviews. In the meantime, time is ticking, and often times, great candidates are missed.
In an ideal world, recruiters would have the time to proactively find good talent. They would not “headhunt” this talent when there is a vacancy, they would do so before one even exists. Recruiters would contact great talent, build relationships with these people, and then maintain relationships with them until something opens up that fits their skill set. If the talent is that phenomenal, maybe your business can even create a role for them. After all, great talent is hard to find!
