Celebrating Black History Month: Insights from Our Leaders

We are honored to have some of our leaders share their perspectives on Black History Month, both on a personal and a professional level.

Lamar Anderson, MBA, MBA, Senior Vice President and General Manager of The Home Depot division.

"African-American history isn’t separate history. It is all of our history, it’s American history," Lamar said. For his family, Black History Month is a time to engage in conversations with their children about the contributions African Americans have made to the world so that they may gain a sense of identity and perspective.

"By understanding America’s history comprehensively, there is no limit to what we, as Americans, can accomplish," he said. To emphasize his perspective, he quoted James Baldwin, "If you know whence you came, there is really no limit where you can go."

Tracey Gibson, Vice President and Chief Diversity Officer

Tracey Gibson beautifully describes Black History Month as more than a celebration of the past. "It is a glowing ember of our collective spirit, warming the present and illuminating the path for future generations. It is an acknowledgment of our triumph and resilience as a people. This month is a time to honor those who have paved paths with hope and freedom in their hearts, the very paths on which so many from all walks of life travel today," she said.

Tracey invites everyone to join in reflection, learn from stories, and celebrate the culture that threads through the fabric of our nation's soul. As we honor this legacy, Tracey encourages us to carry it forward with pride and unwavering hope for what is yet to come.
