On Thursday, April 13, the European Data Protection Board (EDPB) announced the creation of a "task force" on ChatGPT, responsible for strengthening and fostering cooperation between data protection authorities.

  • Montana Governor seeks to ban more than TikTok

Governor Greg Gianforte has delayed signing a bill that would ban TikTok on all devices in the state, and seeks to broaden the ban to "social-media applications that provide certain data to foreign adversaries".

The bill, SB 419, was initially planned to ban TikTok from being offered in the state, a ban scheduled to take effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

  • New deadline for the IAB TCF action plan

Following last year's decision by the Belgian Data Protection Authority, IAB Europe was fined and instructed it to come up with a plan to solve the issues that were identified with its Transparency and Consent Framework (TCF).

That action plan was submitted but IAB Europe has since confirmed that the Belgian APD has voluntarily suspended its six-month implementation period. A new deadline has been set for September, 30th, 2023.

  • Colorado Privacy Act Rules Finalized

It was recently announced that the Colorado Attorney General’s Office had finalized the Colorado Privacy Act (CPA Rules) rules, which became law in July 2021, with an effective date on July 1, 2023.

Colorado will be joining in on the wave of U.S. state privacy regulations that have popped up over the past few years, including California, Utah, Virginia, Colorado, Connecticut, and more recently Iowa.
