4 Things to Know: HOK’s 2024 Design Annual

Welcome to a special edition of the HOK Design Digest, featuring our 2024 Design Annual. This year’s Design Annual focuses on Projects, People and Process and showcases design excellence across a variety of markets and disciplines. Below, learn more about this year’s Design Annual and the projects categorized into three areas: Life + Leisure, Adapt + Retrofit, and Innovate + Heal.

Projects, People and Process

The Design Annual showcases the amazing work taking place across all our 26 international studios. Projects in this year’s Annual span from Seattle and St. Louis to South Korea and Saudi Arabia, showing the multiple project types and disciplines involved in our work. What ties these diverse projects together is the way they uniquely solve a client’s challenge by pushing the envelope of what is possible. Each project in the Annual features behind-the-scenes details directly from our designers, planners and engineers of how the project came to life. They focus on the process and strategy of creating each project—taking that kernel of an idea and building on it until it’s something real.

Life + Leisure

Within this section, explore the stories behind designing vibrant entertainment venues and mixed-use districts, luxurious residences, curated travel experiences and more. Adapt + Retrofit

Sustainability is ingrained in HOK’s culture and design processes. This commitment is on display in our work transforming existing buildings and giving them new life, whether it’s refreshing historic office buildings, revitalizing abandoned structures or modernizing major airport terminals. Learn the history behind these projects and how our teams collaborated to create inspiring, resilient designs that repurpose places and spaces for the needs of today and tomorrow in the Adapt + Retrofit section.

Innovate + Heal

At HOK, we are dedicated to improving people’s lives through design. In this section of the Design Annual, find inspiring stories of projects that push the boundaries on scientific research, provide empathetic healthcare to patients, and create collaboration between clinicians. How does HOK find out about new, innovative and sustainable materials? We are an interior acoustic materials manufacturer / supplier. My challange is how to bring these products in front of the HOK interior architects? Any ideas or interest?
