Challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic, climate change and the rise of cryptocurrency were among the hot topics for discussion at the recent 22nd Conference of International Investigators (CII) hosted by the Inspectorate General Investigations Division of the European Investment Bank at its headquarters in Luxembourg City. This year’s hybrid conference brought together more than 150 investigators from Multilateral Development Banks, International Financial Institutions, United Nations agencies and other international and European organisations participating in person, as well as around 450 remote participants, to discuss issues of common concern in the field of investigations.
The theme of this year, “Investigating in a Changing Climate”, reflected topics relevant to how investigation mandates and practices are evolving in today’s fast changing world. Addressing the audience, EIB President Werner Hoyer underlined the importance to of ensure ensuring that projects and operations are not impacted by fraud and corruption and that resources are used for supporting economies, creating jobs, promoting equality and improving lives for EU citizens and people societies worldwide.
Established in 1999, the CII is the primary forum for investigators of international organisations around the globe to exchange ideas and cooperate on integrity issues, address challenges in fighting fraud, corruption, and other misuse of funds, and share new developments and leading practices.
