10 Things I've Learned from Growing a Six-Figure Business on LinkedIn
“We have to let you go…”
That was the message I got from my old boss when I walked into work one day. I was handed a little envelope with severance and told that my job had ended.
I spent 2 years of blood, sweat, and tears into creating and opening a local, downtown wine shop from scratch. After I was fired from this job, I decided to never put my financial stability in someone else’s hands again.
After having a good cry, I went to Google the next day and typed in, “How do you make money online?” That one little Google query changed my life. I discovered the world of freelancing and honestly never looked back.
My first year, I replaced my income from the wine shop. Over the next 24 months, I tripled it 300%. And, I owe so much of this success to LinkedIn.
The LinkedIn Goldrush is Just Beginning
LinkedIn allowed me to create a platform that built trust with my clients. LinkedIn is one of the only platforms that gives us millions of potential clients and customers at our fingertips.
Here are 10 things I’ve learned from creating a six-figure business on LinkedIn:
(1) Niche down. While you don’t need to pigeonhole yourself into one specialty, it helps to have a niche that you’re known for.
(2) Network. There’s enough opportunity to go around for everyone. Build relationships with other people who are in your space and share the wealth.
(3) You don’t need to go viral. I’ve had many viral posts on LinkedIn and not one of them has made me much money. You don’t need viral posts to be successful.
(4) Be generous. Offer your potential clients a free review, audit, or discovery call. You want to give them the opportunity to connect with you with no upfront risk.
(5) Build an email list. The sooner you can start growing an email list, the better. This is your owned audience that can’t be taken away from you.
(6) Learn the algorithm. LinkedIn is totally different than Facebook, Tik Tok, and Instagram. Learn to “go with the flow” on LinkedIn and understand its nuances.
(7) Price competitively. My advice has always been to price your services just below your competitors. You never want to be the cheapest but also not the most expensive.
(8) Invest in yourself. Over time I’ve spent thousands on resources and coaches to help me grow. Every investment has paid me back 10X ROI by making me better at my craft.
(9) Stay consistent. Persistence and consistency pay off. The most talented person isn’t usually the one who wins. It’s the one who shows up daily and won’t quit.
(10) Keep evolving. Platforms and markets are always changing. Know that what works today might not work next year. Keep growing, testing, and learning.
The LinkedIn gold rush is just getting started. Most people are still unaware of just how much opportunity there is here.
