10 Ideas to Help Others in Small Ways. Remember and Support the Las Vegas Victims
After the devastating event in Las Vegas last week, many of us make feel like we can't make a difference. We may feel that because we are not near the site, we don't know the victims, or we may be unsure how to help out, so we do nothing. But there are many small acts of kindness that you can do in just a few seconds or certainly in a few minutes. And, it helps with overall health and wellbeing.
These 10 ideas may make your life, the community, and those around you a little happier, and perhaps will bring some joy and comfort. Try one or more of these and let me know how it impacts you and others.
- Smile warmly at someone when your eyes meet even if you don't know the person. Every smile is free and it releases tension.
- Say "good morning" or "how are you today" when you are standing in line waiting, going up the stairs, or in the parking lot.
- Allow a driver to safely cut in front of you when driving even though the few seconds you could have saved is probably not worth it.
- Pay for a coffee or beverage for the person standing in line behind you. Others will notice and may make the same offer to others.
- Pick up a piece or two of litter strewn on the sidewalk. Mother Nature will love you for doing it.
- Make a phone call to a family member or friend to see how they are doing and let them lead the conversation.
- Visit an elderly person and ask them to share a special story about when they were young. Have them dive into details and reminiscence while listening carefully.
- Ask someone to talk a brisk walk and notice how beautiful nature is. Share your wonder and awe by paying attention to the fall colors, noises, animals and plants.
- Give a healthy snack to someone that has been kind (or not so kind) to you with a friendly hand note.
- Reflect, pause, and gently bite your lips when you catch yourself making judgement or criticizing others.
No one is perfect. By doing something good, you help yourself and the world around you. Be the change. Peace to everyone.
