Celebrating the Sounds of Nature: A Unique Collaboration at Mexico City’s Chinampas. I'm thrilled to share a glimpse into an extraordinary project I had the privilege of undertaking with Josh Robertson from Splice. Our journey began in the heart of Mexico City, amid the vibrant and historical chinampas. These "floating gardens," a marvel of ancient Mesoamerican engineering, are not only a testament to sustainable agriculture but also a crucial habitat for diverse species. Preserving these ecosystems is vital for biodiversity and the continuation of traditional agricultural practices that respect and enrich the natural world. We recorded the natural sounds of Mexico City's last living river and the bustling life of the chinampas. We then crafted these recordings into a unique sample pack available on Splice, intertwining the natural with the digital, and inviting artists worldwide to experience and reinterpret the sonic beauty of this area. The project culminated in a series of live music performances right in the heart of the chinampas. These concerts were more than just performances; they were a serenade to the land that inspired us. This initiative brought together policymakers, scientists, local preservation groups, non-profits, and the community through the universal language of sound. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a meaningful project and to all those who joined us in celebrating and supporting the sustainable preservation of Mexico City's chinampas. Discover more about this initiative through Splice. So why do we need art and embodied connection with nature? The old Lakota was wise. He knew that man's heart, away from nature, becomes hard; he knew that lack of respect for growing, living things soon led to lack of respect for humans too. ' Luther Standing Bear (1978). “Land of the Spotted Eagle”, The quote by Luther reflects the profound understanding of the relationship between humans and nature, as seen through the lens of the wisdom of the old Lakota people. It suggests that when humans become disconnected from nature, their hearts become hardened, leading to a lack of respect for all living things, including other humans. It serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with the environment, as it ultimately influences our attitudes and behaviors towards one another. Key insights: Old Lakota wisdom: Bear attributes wisdom to the old Lakota people, implying a deep understanding of human nature and the natural world. Connection between Humanity and Nature: There's a recognition that humans are inherently connected to nature, and when this connection is severed, negative consequences ensue. Degradation of Humanity: Lack of respect for the natural world leads to a degradation of human values. Interconnectedness: The quote underscores the interconnectedness of all living things, suggesting that disrespect towards any aspect of nature can have negative impact on human society. Ideas for action: Promote Environmental Education: Implement educational programs that teach people about the importance of nature and foster a deeper appreciation for the environment. Encourage Outdoor Activities: Facilitate opportunities for people to engage with nature through activities like hiking, camping, and wildlife observation. Support Conservation Efforts: Get involved in conservation projects aimed at protecting natural habitats, preserving biodiversity, and mitigating the effects of climate change. Advocate for Sustainable Practices: Encourage individuals, businesses, and governments to adopt sustainable practices that reduce their environmental impact and promote harmony with nature. Cultivate Respect for Indigenous Knowledge: Recognize and honor the wisdom of indigenous cultures, traditional ecological knowledge and practices. Promote Green Spaces in Urban Areas: Advocate for the creation of parks, gardens & green spaces in urban environments to provide access to nature for all. Practice Mindfulness in Nature: Encourage mindful practices in natural settings to help individuals reconnect with earth and cultivate a deeper sense of respect & appreciation for all living beings. Support Policies That Protect the Environment: Advocate for policies & regulations that prioritize environmental conservation and sustainability at local and global levels. Luther Standing Bear (AKA Matho Nazin, 1868 - 1939) was a Sicangu and Oglala Lakota author, educator, philosopher & actor. He was at the forefront of a progressive movement to change government policy toward Native Americans.

There is a natural mixed forest in Gruszowiec, South of Poland 🌳🌳🌳🌳 🏞️ The area spans 5,5 hectars 🏞️ Located approximately 50 km south of Skawina near Kraków, where we are developing a modern, environmentally sustainable warehouse park, MDC2 Park Kraków South. 🏞️ The forest is protected by Fundacja Las Na Zawsze and financed by our business partner, Generali Real Estate through MDC2 Park Kraków South. We are pleased to present the beauty of this forest in the attached report. Jeremy Cordery, our COO and Founder, said about the project: “We are building for the sustainable future of our tenants, investors, communities, the environment, and our industry. In line with this motto, we engage in activities related to natural conservation. There are few places dedicated to nature. A large natural forest is a big challenge. We approach it with great enthusiasm, because the larger the area, the greater the chance of leaving nature with what is most valuable – the preservation of developed ecosystems full of diverse life." #forest #poland #krakow #nature #esg #buildingforgood #warehouse #realestate

It is fascinating to observe yet another pertinente shift in mindset demonstrated through engaging nature conservation endeavours; a defunct golf course is set to be repurposed into a tree sanctuary. This transformation is a pronounced reminder of the importance we now place on green recovery and the resurgence of public botanical spaces. • The concept presents intriguing grounds for speculation and looking forward, innovative projects of this nature could become a prime focus for urban development strategies, converging ecological imperative with cultural value creation. • Such instances extend to illustrate that when the environment has reached its resilience due to previous misuse, the importance of acknowledging these shifts and allowing unparalleled rectification is paramount for the regeneration of natural habitats. With more emphasis than ever on sustainability and promoting biodiversity, thoughtful projects such as these appear as symbols of our conscious push towards ecological correction and balance. Let's ponder: 1. The multitude of potential benefits, from climate regulation and pollution absorption to providing valuable habitats for plant and animal species. 2. The importance of integrating nature in urban spaces which also nurtures public health and uplifts community spirit. Hidden behind such perceived simplicity of an endeavour lies an intricate web of possibilities that if put into practice conscientiously, can prove as catalyst for creating liveable, sustainable cities. In essence, this transformative endeavour stands as testament not only of man-made interventions' potential reversal but also as a figurative proof of our general acknowledgment of the mistakes we have made against our environment. The thoughtfulness of this venture shines a beacon of hope and reinforces the belief in our human capacity to repair, restore and revitalize. Would it be too far fetched to anticipate an era brimming with an array of green sanctuaries, formerly defunct urban spaces reborn in a new sustainable form? Parece to suggest not! #Sustainability #UrbanRenewal #GreenSpaces.
