At the Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU), we continue to advocate for hiring more police officers to keep our communities safe. Additionally, police must be moved out of offices and desk jobs to patrol our streets, increase police visibility, and deter criminals.   Our high crime levels are unacceptable. As many as 6,228 people were violently murdered in the three months between April and June of this year alone – an average of 68 murders per day. Additionally, there were nearly 150,000 contact crimes, which include attempted murder and assault.   We must capacitate our police service with the necessary tools and resources to break the grip of lawlessness. This means more officers, enhanced training, the provision of better infrastructure and technological tools, and structural changes to better mobilise our resources.    #POPCRU #CrimePrevention #LawEnforcement #PublicSafety #SaferSA
