Black history is everyday history ✊🏼✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿 Black history is not simply a matter of acknowledging a specific time of year, it is a celebration of notable achievements and contributions made by African Americans in various fields. Every day, we are constantly reminded of the progress we have made in health equity, drug development, and other industries. However, it is important to acknowledge that we would not have made it this far without the contributions of pioneers who paved the way for future generations. For instance, Otis Boykin's invention of the pacemaker, Charles Drew's pioneering work on blood transfusions, Ben Carson's accomplishment of performing the first neurosurgery on conjoined twins, and Daniel Hale Williams' breakthrough in performing the first open-heart surgery have all had a significant impact on medical history. African Americans have made remarkable contributions across a wide range of fields, including the arts, science, and technology, and these contributions should be celebrated and recognized daily. Let us continue to be inspired and motivated by our past as we continue to work toward the future. https://lnkd.in/egmijzBB

Today, we begin the annual celebration of Black History Month where we raise awareness, deepen understanding, and build greater connection. The 2024 theme is “African American and the Arts”, specifically Art as a platform for social justice. What resonates so deeply about this years’ theme is how I’ve watched Black artists be change agents and share so much of our culture with the world in hope for a better one; a more equitable one. For me, this is why we celebrate Black History Month.
