Asian American, Native Hawaiian & Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month is annually observed in May, serving as a time to honor the rich culture, history, and contributions of these diverse communities to American history. Each part of this community possesses unique experiences, reminding us that no single story can fully encapsulate the rich legacies of AANHPI individuals. Throughout American history, these communities have often faced harm in the pursuit of advancing the U.S. agenda, despite their pivotal contributions to socio-political movements. For 2024, the Federal Asian Pacific American Council has themed AANHPI month “Advancing Leaders Through Innovation,” paying homage to resilient innovators and pioneers who have not only shaped the communities’ history but also the nation's history in the face of adversity. The legacies of AANHPI leaders are rich with lasting contributions across economic, political, social, technological, and cultural spheres, characterized by their creativity even while navigating systemic barriers (source: fapac.org). Their continued influence on our nation's future cannot be understated. The members of Chi Upsilon Sigma encourage you to educate yourself on the overlooked and untold stories of AANHPI authors, nonprofits/organizations, laborers, political figures, and these communities as a whole. #AANHPIHeritageMonth

#SCP is proud to participate in Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month through the month of May. Here are 3 suggestions to celebrate the culture, traditions, and history of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in the U.S. 1. Instead of just eating at an Asian restaurant, talk to the owners. Learn their stories, how they went about establishing their business, the obstacles they've faced, and local issues they care about. 2. Expand your knowledge. Flip through a popular magazine and look at how they portray Asian Pacific Americans. Are the portrayals negative? Positive? What kinds of stereotypes are depicted? What kind of message do you think this sends to other readers? 3. Spread the word! Tell a non-Asian Pacific American that May is recognized as Asian Pacific American month! This is perhaps the simplest, yet most effective way to raise awareness. Tell him or her what it means to you, invite them to a local event, or share a historical fact with them. #aapihistorymonth #aapiheritagemonth #AAPI #DEIA #strategicconsultingpartners

Celebrating Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month: A Shared History of Resilience and Unity As we celebrate Asian American and Pacific Islander (#AAPI) Heritage Month, it's important to recognize the interconnected stories of resilience, strength, and unity that bind our diverse communities together. The AAPI community, like the #AfricanAmerican community, has faced significant challenges and overcome tremendous obstacles throughout history. From the early #Chinese immigrants who helped build the transcontinental railroad to the #Japanese Americans who endured internment during World War II, the AAPI community has shown remarkable resilience. Similarly, the African American community has a rich history of overcoming adversity, from the fight against slavery and segregation to the ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality. These shared experiences highlight the importance of solidarity and mutual support among all marginalized communities. By understanding and honoring our intertwined histories, we can build a stronger, more inclusive future for everyone. Here’s how we can celebrate and support both communities: 1. **Educate Ourselves**: Learn about the contributions and challenges faced by both the AAPI and African American communities. 2. **Amplify Voices**: Share stories, books, and media that highlight the achievements and struggles of these communities. 3. **Support Businesses**: Patronize AAPI and African American-owned businesses. 4. **Stand in Solidarity**: Advocate for policies and initiatives that promote equality and justice for all. Let’s celebrate AAPI Heritage Month by recognizing our shared history and committing to a future of unity and mutual support. #AAPIHeritageMonth #AfricanAmericanHistory #UnityInDiversity #Solidarity #Resilience
