My daughter and I were extremely fortunate to be part of this amazing experience with these 10 mums and their 10 strong, resilient, fun and clever daughters. The trip was beautifully created and curated by the fabulous Lisa Murphy at Big Heart Adventures. The connectedness between mothers and daughters, mums and mums, daughters and daughters and the whole group, along with the memories made, is something we will all cherish forever. Thank you Lisa! When Louise Davidson AM and Mavis Robertson founded the Mother's Day Classic Foundation in 1998, with the support of the Women in Super network, 3000 people took part in Melbourne and Sydney, donating $48,000 to breast cancer research.   Following the 27th running (and walking) of the Mother’s Day Classic: 🏃♀️ 1.7 million participants have joined the movement in every corner of Australia; and 💕 $47.3 million has been donated to vital breast and ovarian cancer research.  Start small, dream big and never underestimate the power of collective action!

The passion, unity, strength and resilience of our community shone brightly at each of the 75 MDC events across Australia on Mother’s Day and this extraordinary donation delivers hope that one day every person diagnosed with either breast or ovarian cancer will be given the assurance they can survive. As determined by our 2024 MDC participants, of this total amount, $2.1 million will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation and $1.2 million to the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF). National Volunteer Week closely follows the Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic which is serendipitous given the vital role that volunteers have played every year since the MDC was founded in 1998. The remarkable journey of the MDC spanning 27 years owes its success to the unwavering dedication of volunteers nationwide. Volunteers are the lifeblood of the MDC, contributing in a myriad of ways. From local hosts who rally their communities to stage MDC events in cities and towns, to state and territory committee chairs and members infusing color, joy, and behind-the-scenes amazingness into major events, and the on-the-day volunteers who guide and cheer participants along the course. Community ambassadors, who bravely share their personal experiences to raise awareness, and a special mention to the tireless Mother's Day Classic Foundation Board, ensuring the event's ongoing success. Our heartfelt gratitude extends to the tens of thousands of volunteers who have poured their hearts into the MDC over the past 27 years. "I'm proud of our team and I'm proud of what we do" - one of our amazing team members said it beautifully! It's a small but talented (and passionate) crew that work year-round at MDC HQ to bring the Mother’s Day Classic to life. Together they work alongside our dedicated volunteers, local hosts, partners, suppliers, supporters and stakeholders to deliver 75 events for 80,000 people that take place at the same time and on the same day – an extraordinary effort when you think about it! 85,000 people, 75 locations across Australia and an overwhelming feeling of strength, joy, hope and togetherness! We knew 2024 was going to be an extraordinary year for the Women in Super Mother’s Day Classic as we extended our impact to include ovarian cancer research in addition to breast cancer research, however, the response from the community has exceeded our expectations. Fundraising and donations remain open 30 June 2024 and we are on track for a momentous donation to both the National Breast Cancer Foundation and the Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation (OCRF).
