As an aspiring CA(SA)…. ….studying towards a Diploma and not a Bachelor’s in Accounting, I feel like we students who are ought to take bridging courses such as Advanced Diploma’s/BCTA before obtaining or getting enrolled for our CTA’s are not really spoken about/motivated or even considered. Firms prefer Bachelor students and give opportunities to them the most (job requirements at most firms include a Bachelor’s qualification) and to me as a Senior year student studying towards a Diploma Qualification, looking for Firms to do Vacation work/ internships or work integrated at, I have to struggle a lot before I get recognition from firms. Don’t get me wrong, I do know that a Bachelor degree is more advanced than a Diploma and maybe that’s why Firms opt for it more than a Diploma, however a Diploma is still a qualification and I wish Firms would consider giving us chances as well because we really are doing our level best. Our journeys may take a little longer than others but we all will get to our destinations at the end. Consider us too, we might actually surprise you.
