To all of our Pathway Programs interns from Summer 2024--we are so happy you were able to join us! Just a quick reminder to update your resume/CV with your summer internship experience! We suggest doing it now, while the experience is still fresh in your mind. Remember, hiring managers/admissions committees are interested in what you accomplished at your internship, not just that you participated. What types of projects did you work on and how did your tasks contribute to the projects? Try for 3 bullet points describing your accomplishments. Three is not a magic number, the point is to break the experience down into specific, memorable contributions (you may have 2-5, and that is fine). Use key words--often the skills or technology used. Once your resume/CV has been updated, go into the Experience section on LinkedIn and update that, too. It's important to capture your accomplishments!

Among the highlights of the newly released NACE 2024 Internship and Co-op Report, roughly 80% of employers expect internship hiring to remain stable this year. Despite growing interest in internships among students, educators, and employers, participation remains low. Only 25% of students at 4-year universities participate in a paid internship (the gold standard in terms of career outcomes), and that number drops to 10% for community college students. These are some of the statistics I've been reflecting on in my first month at Strada Education Foundation. What's standing in the way? This week, we released a new report investigating some of the barriers students face in accessing and participating in paid internships. They include: 1) A lack of awareness of relevant opportunities 2) Financial constraints 3) Lack of time due to heavy course loads and other responsibilities Employers and institutions can work collaboratively to reduce these barriers, but stronger alignment and coordination is needed.
