In my short journey in leadership, there have been few things more gratifying than witnessing one's team members take the reins with initiative and drive. It's these moments that truly reflect the strength and dedication of a team committed to excellence. Today, I want to extend a heartfelt shoutout to Dinesh dissanayake and Dinaka Chamara for exemplifying this spirit of proactive leadership. Their recent initiative to visit our machine suppliers in China wasn't just a routine check-in. It was a fact-finding mission fueled by foresight and a true commitment to our goals. (I actually joked with them asking if they were going on a 'trip' because I wasn't aware of their plan!) Dinesh and Dinaka didn't just visit; they dived into a comprehensive exploration, visiting various packaging factories and machine suppliers, gathering insights, and understanding the nuances of our industry in another country. The takeaways from their expedition were invaluable. But what's even more impressive is their eagerness to share these learnings with our team through a full presentation. Some of their initiatives included looking at new machinery as well as identifying sustainability and efficiency-based technology which would support our Sustainability goals as well as help save on our rising electricity costs. One person can't come up with the necessary initiatives that would drive a business forward - It's when the entire team sees beyond their immediate responsibilities, understands the larger picture, and takes bold steps that pave the way for fast progress. So here's to Dinesh and Dinaka – your initiative is not just inspiring; it sets a benchmark for leadership. Thank you for your outstanding contribution and for being the change-makers in Varna Packaging's journey. I discussed the evolving mobility landscape, with a particular focus on the regional balance of supply chains. Key points included: - The pandemic underscored the necessity for supply chains to embrace a local-for-local strategy to ensure business continuity. - The importance of operational flexibility to quickly respond to changes in customer demand and regulatory shifts. This morning, I had the pleasure of delivering the Keynote at the American Manufacturing Summit, and to meet and chat with stewards of the industry who are dedicated to rethinking manufacturing leadership. I always start with my philosophy of leading BIC: we strive to honor the past so we can invent the future. Throughout the years, we have driven agility and speed to market through technical excellence, building trust, and ensuring quality. We have innovated to meet consumer needs and established consistency, reliability, and value. We have challenged everything except the consumer! It's clear that in an ever-changing world, resilience and know-how are a true competitive advantage. And it never stops. Our sustainability efforts must evolve to meet the modern challenges within our environment; our use of technology must constantly adapt to meet the advancements of our times.
