In the X-Net Talks we look at interdisciplinary research from different angles, providing a platform for specialists to tell us about their work, their lives and what drives them to pursue their goals in this field. Here, Dr. Alice Pyne, FLF and lecturer at the University of Sheffield, talks about the importance of good leadership.
I guess the way I tried to lead. Is to do things in the way that I hope they become done. Not the best phrase sentence but. To be inclusive. To listen to everyone's ideas. To bring those ideas together wherever I can. To support those that need supporting, so to take ideas from anywhere and and recognize which of those ideas need support to develop and which ones, you can just say Yep, great on you go. And maybe to try and change the way things are done. So to question the status quo, I think it's my responsibility as a leader. So maybe it's not leadership per se to say, OK, if I'm in this privileged position of power. How can I? How can I question the way things are done where I think they could be changed for the better? Without being, I think what you're doing is terrible. By saying, Could we try this? Have you thought about this? This would be really positive. Especially thinking about people who are. Not as well supported as me, or not as lucky or not as privileged as me. And trying to make. Whichever space, we're working in a more equitable and positive space for as many people as we can.
