I help you become the courageous leader whom you aspire to be and inspire others to follow your lead!
[Conquering Homelessness] Tell me honestly, your feelings when you saw the title, "Conquering Homelessness". Do you think homelessness can be conquered? Can we hit 0 or the state of no homelessness. Statistically, in Singapore, there are 9 in 100,000 homeless folks (I read that somewhere in a recent report); that's < 0.01%. So, if we were to round down, it's 0%. So, why am I still concerned about this topic? Because each homeless person is someone who matters. I care about the persons where I live or stayed. So, I care about the homeless in Singapore and the homeless in Cambridge, MA where I stayed in 2019. For Tahira Amir Khan, host of the Golden Door Forum 1st Panel on "Conquering Homelessness", she cares about the issue globally. Same as my fellow panelist, Richard Tan, who has a wealth of experience in the civil service. Joanne Flinn, my fellow APSS member, has her own take on it too. So, join us online this Friday 8pm SGT at the Golden Door Forum (https://lnkd.in/dKAJ-aEU) to find out more. #linkedinconnections #linkedincircles #linkedinnewsasia #lkyspp

1 in 4 people seeking help are fleeing domestic violence. Homelessness services are overwhelmed by people seeking help. In 2023, 108,000 people were unable to be assisted because of shortages of staff, accommodation or other services. At Link Wentworth, we know that a Housing First approach can provide immediate, stable, long-term accommodation. During Homelessness Week, please join us in taking action on homelessness by signing the petition: https://lnkd.in/gARcp6wX Homelessness Australia #HomelessnessWeek #Homelessness #EndHomelessness

Victoria is in a once-in-a-lifetime homelessness crisis. Across Melbourne, homelessness entry points are often so overwhelmed by demand that they're unable to provide people with support on the day they need it. More investment is needed to grow entry points so they can meet the current need. That's why we are joining the Council To Homeless Persons and calling for increased funding for entry points in the upcoming Victorian State Budget. This year’s Victorian Budget needs to be The Homelessness Budget. #TheHomelessnessBudget #VicBudget #EndHomelessness #vicpol

Demand on homelessness services is fast becoming unsustainable for many councils across the UK. However, there are still actions local authorities can take to improve their service, reduce demand and deliver better outcomes for residents. We recently shared a toolkit of resources, approaches and ideas based on work we have done with 8 different local authorities: https://lnkd.in/ergav6pE While we don’t have all the answers, we hope this toolkit can be a source of ideas for ways to improve despite the difficult circumstances homelessness services are under. We want to make this toolkit as collaborative as possible, so if you have feedback or ideas to contribute please feel free to reach out to [email protected]. On Friday, 15 December we are also hosting a virtual workshop to bring together people working on homelessness services to learn and collaborate on how we can tackle this complex problem. You can sign up for the workshop here: https://lnkd.in/evmRNfgG.. #homelessness #localgovernment #housingcrisis #socialhousing

Each year Homelessness Australia set a theme for Homelessness Week and this year it is ** Homelessness Action Now ** In the lead up to finalising our events program for Homelessness Week 2024, we have been considering what this theme could mean and how we can collectively and collaboratively create action. We also encourage our sector peers and allies to consider the same moving forward. Also, if you are a homelessness service provider in Western Australia and you are considering applying for funding for a Homelessness Week event, project or initiative through our Grant Program this year, keep this years theme in mind when defining your concept and vision for what you wish to host or collaborate with others to host. It's an important question to consider. #HomelessnessWeek #HomelessnessWeek2024 #HomelessnessWeekWA #HomelessnessWeekFunding #HomelessnessWeekGrantProgram

Must Watch 👀 "Finland's remarkable success in reducing homelessness is often credited to the innovative Housing First approach. This model offers stable housing as the primary intervention, complemented by essential support services to address the root causes of homelessness and help individuals rebuild their lives." While skeptics argue that Finland's achievements cannot be replicated in America, Invisible People embarked on a transformative journey to Helsinki, Finland, to explore the potential of implementing the Housing First approach on a large scale in the United States. What's even more striking is that Housing First was born in America❗ Yet Finland has embraced it and witnessed an incredible reduction in homelessness, plummeting from over 20,000 homeless people to less than 4,000 in just a decade. Countless media outlets have highlighted Finland's achievements in homelessness reduction, with the Housing First model at the forefront. Finland's strategy prioritizes the development of affordable housing and cultivates a culture genuinely dedicated to improving homeless services to house people quickly and permanently. While Housing First has played a significant role in their success, it's just one piece of the puzzle. #housingfirst #homelessness #homelessnessissolvable #sandiego #affordablehousing https://lnkd.in/dPXQ--SU

🆕 Data shows the number of San Diegans falling into homelessness is outpacing the number of people exiting into housing across the region 👉 “Housing and homelessness are directly tied together, and when rental costs go up, so do the numbers of people experiencing homelessness.” -Regional Task Force on Homelessness CEO Tamera Kohler Did you know? RTFH regularly publishes reports on how many people enter and exit homelessness throughout San Diego County -- a valuable tool for better understanding of the homelessness crisis. 🏠 This week is Homelessness Week 2024. Did you know that the main reason people seek homelessness support is because of issues with their housing and finance, closely followed by family and domestic violence? 👉 On any given night, 122,494 people in Australia are experiencing homelessness. 👉 In 2022-23, over 273,600 people were assisted by homelessness service, but 108,000 people were turned away. 👉 That equals 295 people a day being turned away because services are overstretched. 👉 80% of those being turned away were women and children, many of whom are fleeing family and domestic violence. Our Unsheltered Homelessness Brief recommends new solutions we believe should be considered to create more exits to homelessness in our community. One of those suggestions is exploring the idea of tiny homes. What are Tiny Homes? A village of micro-homes often with community-based amenities where previously homeless individuals can flourish. When done correctly, they prioritize dignity using the community of tiny homes “as an efficient means to uplift people in need—as opposed to trying to relocate people off the street in the cheapest way possible.” Two examples of tiny home villages are The Village at Glencliff and Community First Village in Austin, TX.
