A huge congratulations to our very own Eliza Sinclair for taking out the 2024 Ron Shorter Award – we couldn’t be more proud! Congratulations also to the other finalists, whose extremely engaging presentations have raised the bar with the judging panel commenting that this year has seen the highest calibre of competition in the award’s twelve-year history! Thank you to the judges, everyone who showed their support in-person and virtually, and Australian Insurance Law Association for making the night a success. If you’re attending the AILA National Conference tomorrow, be sure to catch Eliza’s winning presentation at 3:30pm.
RON SHORTER AWARD WINNER 2024 ANNOUNCED! On 10 September, we celebrated the final of the 2024 Ron Shorter Award with a thrilling in-person and online event, showcasing the pinnacle of young professional public speaking prowess! 🎤✨ In a world where virtual presentations hold equal relevance and value to in-person performances, the Ron Shorter Award steps up to the challenge, pushing the boundaries of speaking skills. This prestigious competition, made possible by our incredible partners at Australian Institute of Management and sponsors Colin Biggers & Paisley, Dever's List, and Jarm, is dedicated to recognising excellence in this crucial skill set. Named in honour of Ron Shorter, a beloved AILA supporter and the mastermind behind this competition, who left us too soon in 2012, the award honours his legacy and commitment to developing public speaking skills for our industry YP’s. Our finalists dazzled the audience gathered in-person Brisbane, nationally via Zoom and esteemed judges with their 10-minute presentations: 🔥 ADAM CASS from Sparke Helmore Lawyers captivated us with “We do insurance now! Industry developments in a cost of living crisis" 🔥 TESS DOUGLAS of MinterEllison engaged us with “Igniting Interest: Cultivating Passion for Insurance Law Among University Students” 🔥 ELIZA SINCLAIR from Wotton + Kearney intrigued us with “Cozzie living! The impact of the current cost of living crisis on the insurance market" The judging panel, including Hon Martin Daubney AM KC (Level 17 Chambers), Angus Kench (Vice President Claims, Casualty, Workers Compensation and Crisis Management, Asia Pacific, Liberty Specialty Markets), and Melanie Quixley (Partner, Barry Nilsson + AILA National President), were blown away by the high calibre of all three presentations and commented on re-setting a very high bar for the competition. They acknowledged the unique challenges of virtual public speaking and the crucial role of engagement and impact in the digital realm whilst being able to equally present with professionalism and interest in an in-person environment. After much deliberation, we are thrilled to announce: 🥇 Eliza Sinclair takes home the 2024 crystal trophy and $1000! 🏆 🥈 Adam Cass claims second place and $500! 🎉 🥉 Tess Douglas earns third place with a prize of $250! 🥳 A huge congratulations to Eliza, Adam, Tess, and everyone who made the 2024 Ron Shorter Award a phenomenal success! Here’s to continuing the tradition of excellence and innovation in public speaking! 🌟👏 #aila #youngprofessionals #insuranceprofessional #insurance #insurancelaw
