Scientists call for the elimination of detrimental subsidies, promotion of equitable human development, and transformative financial support for lower income nations. A critical paradigm shift must occur that replaces exploitative, wealth-oriented capitalism with an economic model that prioritizes sustainability, resilience, and justice. https://lnkd.in/eCC6iRr6

The UK is committed to the U.N. 'Agenda 2030 Sustainable Development Goals' that focus on shrinking economies in order to use less of the world’s resources. The take over ALL businesses around the world. This is a fact and it is their goal to destroy economies by the year 2030 - in 6 years time. https://lnkd.in/eGnYynWM

Good piece by Andrea Riquier covering some new research by our team that shows a connection between physical climate risk and the growing default risk expectation of (especially low-income) countries. What's new here as far as I've seen is the extrapolation of how bad this could get as it gets hotter. Fixed income market assumptions of stability, growth, ability to pay (sometimes absurd) debt service rates... stop making sense at some point. Though the contemporary sentiment in the capital markets seems to be that we should only focus on climate, and isolate it from socioeconomic considerations, that's actually not possible: so-called "emerging markets" are on the front lines here while having contributed virtually nothing to the polycrisis. Without serious, large-scale intervention it's not hard to imagine this vicious dynamic amplifying global migration and conflict. https://lnkd.in/eKsj2-Cp

Can economies work for everyone? 🌍 Sir Ronald Cohen, GSG’s President, together with Martin Wolf of the Financial Times discuss the dual challenges of inequality and climate change.🔁 Key points from their discussion at the GSG Global Impact Summit 2023: 🔹Capitalism in its current form is deepening social inequalities and exacerbating climate challenges. 🔹Technology and globalisation have shifted economic power, benefiting capital holders, creating a 'rentier capitalism' where wealth—and consequently, political power—is highly concentrated. 🔹Changes in taxation, regulation, and competition policy have further entrenched this imbalance. 🔹The weakening middle class threatens democratic stability, contributing to the global rise of populist leadership. 🗣️ Sir Ronald Cohen says “If you can begin to manage to measure in monetary terms the impacts of companies then you begin to get insights that we don't have today.” 🌐 The summit drew attendees from 66 countries, emphasising the need for a radical rethinking of our economic systems and the importance of the impact movement 🚀🌱. Serious about impact: leading, enabling & inspiring people, organisations & markets toward a more sustainable future
True paradigm shifts occur when models are in crisis and we come to understand that the assumptions on which those models were built no longer hold true. We have enough information to know that the assumptions underpinning our dominant economic models no longer hold. Pleased to be able to share this video from The Global Steering Group for Impact Investment (GSG)M Summit last October where Martin Wolf of the Financial Times and Sir Ronald Cohen unpack the dynamics. #impactmatters #sustainabilityleadership #ifnotnowthenwhen.

1moThe World Trade Organization #doxa still is that "more trade is good for the environment and #climate". According to embedded environmental economists, positive technical effects are dominating or will dominate negative scale effects in the future... And, as the self-deluding narrative goes, growth of #digitally-traded services will #dematerialize GDP growth, lift African masses out of poverty, reduce inequalities, etc. Good you can participate in this #Orwellian discussion to get some facts straight and raise critical questions!
