When Did the 2024 Summer Olympic Sports Become Olympic? The 2024 Summer Olympic games will consist of 45 different sport categories. Many of these sports are original to the first Olympic games of 1896, but many new sports have been added in the years since. Breakdancing is new to 2024. For a sport to be Olympic, it must be approved by the International Olympic Committee and often sports were “demonstrated” first at the games before becoming official. Some sports were dropped and then added back in later such as golf, which was removed after the 1900 games and reinstated in 2016. Some sports had name changes over the years. Two sports were cancelled in 1896 due to extreme weather (rowing and sailing) and only two Olympic sports still involve animals (horses): modern pentathlon and the equestrian events. (Fun fact: The shooting sport originally included the killing of live pigeons, but that practice was discontinued). #olympicgames #Paris

🏋️♂️♿How Brazil became a Paralympic power As the Paris Paralympic Games come to a close, Brazil emerged stronger than ever, securing its best result in history and solidifying its position as a global leader in parasports. With a haul of 25 golds, 26 silvers, and 38 bronzes, Brazil finished fifth in the medal standings, further building on its legacy of athletic excellence since breaking into the top 10 at the 2008 Beijing Games. This year’s result cements Brazil’s reputation as a global powerhouse in Paralympic sports, particularly track and field and swimming. The Brazil Team put up a performance that almost surpassed the most optimistic projections of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee (CPB) ahead of Paris. The CPB believed the country would win between 70 and 90 medals, with some experts predicting a top 5 finish. Brazil's consistent presence at the top of the parasports rankings is largely the result of long-term public policies. The establishment of the Brazilian Paralympic Committee in 1995, followed by federal funding mechanisms for sports committees and individual athletes in the 2000s, helped fuel the country's rise, as previously reported by The Brazilian Report. 🔗Read more in our full article by Isabela Cruz here 👇 https://lnkd.in/dkVmnwXm #Paralympic #Sports #Brazil #Paris2024

🔝 OLYMPIC AMBITIONS 🥇 During Paris 2024, so many conversations with friends and colleagues revolved around the Olympic roster, particularly the new sports that debuted, namely Breaking, Sport Climbing and 3x3 Basketball. These are not mainstream sports we follow every day, so, it's always fascinating to see their arrival at the highest level. The Olympic level. 🥈 It also leads to conversations about what sports will enter in the future. And, though it's no longer a question for LA28 Olympic & Paralympic Games, there are many who think our sport of padel could be due its place as soon (in Olympic terms, at least) as Brisbane 2032. We all know that Australia is a nation that loves its sport, so what are the prospects of padel at the Olympics and how soon can it happen? 🥉 You won't be surprised to hear that I'm an advocate for its inclusion at the earliest opportunity, and we at Hexagon will do all we can to support the sport's growth at the professional and amateur levels to make that dream a reality. What do you think...when will padel be ready to achieve Olympic stature? #padel #olympics #brisbane2032 #padelolympics #hexagon Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024, International Padel Federation International Olympic Committee – IOC Australian Olympic Committee Alba Saiz Carvajal Enrique Buenaventura Astrid Thams Labayen Ricardo De Las Heras Ben Nichols Tim Godfrey Dani Homedes Hexagon Cup

Paris Olympics, by far the best for India The ongoing Paris Olympics is by far one of the best in terms of medals in different categories and their number. India has significantly improved its position compared to the previous period, around a decade and back, when hockey used to be the only hope, and we ended up with zero medals. This increase in medals improves the country's reputation and athletes' morale. The current generation of athletes has come to international terms, and they are also receiving the best support in terms of training and rewards. This motivates the upcoming athletes to do further better. The current change in culture is likely to result in more gold medals in the future Olympics than at the current level. All the best to the Indian contingent of athletes who have done so well in the Paris Olympics. #ParisOlympics #Olympics

The Irish Times may want to consider what the chart on Ireland's position in the Olympic Medals Table is actually communicating. https://lnkd.in/eHsQ4qVT While caveated with "Lower numbers are better" most people will probably not read this and go straight for the pretty picture where the chart appears to show a poor performance from the Irish team at Paris 2024 - Comité d'organisation des Jeux Olympiques et Paralympiques de 2024 and other recent Olympics. In this case a lower number is a positive as it relates to their medal table rank where Ireland have performed much better than in previous Olympics. Therefore surely flipping to the chart so the lower numbers are at the top would be a much better visualisation and indicate the positive performance the team had compared to previous Olympics.

There's been alot of people talking about this years 2024 France Olympics with topics including Turkey's shooter - Yusuf Dikec, and Julien Alfred winning St Lucia their first ever Olympic gold! However, something that's seemingly gone under the radar was Australia's strong performance at the games. The AOC (Australian Olympic Committee) increased their total medals in 2020 - 46, to an increased number of 53 medals in 2024. What's more interesting about this medal increase, is the amount of sporting talent winning these medals who were also born in Australia. In the past a significant percentage of the Australian victorious Olympians were born outside of the country. At the 2024 Olympics however, only 32% of their medalists were born outside of Australia. Really impressive results from team Australia. 🌏

Ice Baths don’t win you Gold Medals! Resources matter, but they aren't everything. The latest gear and facilities can help, but in my journey to gold in 2008 and 2016, it was my mindset and my team that made the real difference. With the Olympics just ended and the Paralympics starting next week, it’s easy for athletes to compare their resources to others. The same applies in business—too often, we focus on things that aren't important. Keep it simple. Focus on what truly matters: your mindset, your team, and the process. The outcomes will follow.
