🌏 In Hong Kong, the second highest contributor to carbon emissions comes from transport. From electric boats to buses, its citizens are getting on board with less emission-intensive travel technology and choices. This short film is part of Series 2 of “Humanising Energy”, produced for us by BBC StoryWorks to showcase innovation across the energy ecosystem and spotlight the people who are responding to climate change by spearheading solutions to the problems impacting their communities. This film features CLP Holdings, one of the two major electricity companies operating out of Hong Kong at the forefront of clean energy transitions in the region. 👉 Watch the full episode and the rest of the series here: https://lnkd.in/eUkVc5fe #humanisingenergy #energytransition #renewables #decarbonization #energysystems

The UN’s seventh sustainable development goal calls for access to “affordable, reliable, sustainable and modern energy for all” by 2030. It’s great to see that positive strides have been made by countries like Sweden, Finland, and Latvia, which have surpassed one of the targets of getting 40% of their final energy consumption from #Renewables. However, some countries are still lagging behind, most likely due to a lack of investment. While the US$1.3 trillion of energy transition investment in 2022 was a record, it needs to accelerate to US$5 trillion per annum to align with #NetZero goals. There is still a long way to go but the #EnergyTransition is non-negotiable if we are to meet global #Climate goals and the success of this shift is dependent on every country's commitment.

The energy transition in Asia is not just a technical challenge—it’s a strategic imperative that will shape industries for decades. As highlighted at our recent Marsh Asia Energy Industry Conference, achieving net-zero in the region will require a blend of innovation, skilled talent, and creative financing. The role of hydrogen technology and the need to attract diverse, tech-savvy talent are especially exciting areas of focus. For companies in the energy sector, future success hinges on how we evolve today—both in the solutions we adopt and the workforce we build. For those navigating this space, I encourage you to dive into this article to explore how we can turn these challenges into opportunities for sustainable growth. #EnergyTransition #Sustainability #CleanEnergy #Innovation #GreenFinance #NetZero #FutureofEnergy #marsh #risk

This article is a culmination of multiple discussions with Christian Dose and Chris Walters, as we step through decarbonisation themes in Southeast Asia, as well as the future of power trading in the region. In fact, our informal working title as we wrote the article was "Big Dreams, Small Steps". This succinctly encapsulates the ambition of a regional power grid in Southeast Asia, in tandem with the significant benefits that can be harnessed; but also considers the "realpolitik" around the building blocks required for a truly integrated regional grid to materialise, much as Europe is today setting the gold standard in regional interconnection. Here's the link to the think-piece: https://lnkd.in/dJ7ytPMc Would love to exchange views with anyone interested in the topic !
