There's a very DC publication called "The Hill" that published a list of the 12 (very DC) people who will impact your small business. (I'll link to their article in the comments). It's a list full of cabinet secretaries, agency heads and CEOs of billion dollar companies. Since chambers of commerce advocate for small business, and Lumin Strategies helps chambers advocate, you might expect me to give you a few suggestions on how to influence these influential people. I won't. First, your chamber is not going to sway Fed chair Jerome Powell when he contemplates cutting interest rates. But more importantly, the Hill is wrong. For the small businesses in your community, its not the Speaker of the US Congress that will make the biggest impact but the Speaker of your state House. It's not the Federal Reserve but the local code enforcement office. It's not the CEO of the US Chamber, its the CEO of your local chamber. It can be daunting to look at a list like the one presented by the Hill and think that important decisions are being made by people that you can't influence. In reality, more important decisions are being made by people you can influence, and the place to start is through your local chamber of commerce.
