It was a fantastic opportunity to connect with new and familiar faces alike at CoreNet Global UK Chapter Future Focus Conference last week. There’s such a strong sense of community in our industry - connected by our collective drive to learn, grow, and shape the future of the workplace. Some key takeaways that resonated with me, especially from an inspiration key-note session: • PRODUCTIVITY 💡 - In a world where we are constantly juggling tasks, we often confuse being busy with being truly productive. It’s time we shift our focus from simply getting things done to allowing space for deep focus to allow for innovation and long term growth. • RESILIENCE 💪- Too many organisations are operating on endurance; just keep pushing. Cultivating a resilience culture is essential for sustainable success, and that means prioritising renewal - recovery and rest is so important for high performance. • PSYCHOLOGICAL SAFETY 🌱 - True leadership is about creating an environment where people feel safe to take risks, fail, and grow. Interestingly, psychological safety and scale are inversely related, which is why we need to make time for 1:1s with our teams, rather than them being the first things to drop from the diary when work ramps up. In today’s world, we’re constantly pushed by the mantra: "faster, higher, further." Whether it’s staying competitive, putting out fires, or simply being swept up in momentum, we often forget to ask ourselves why we’re doing what we do. 🎯Let's Bring People Back to the Center Let me share some glimpses from my week. 🖼 Snapshot 1 A session with a leader. A room filled with colorful markers, sticky notes, and ideas rooted in care. How can an organization undergoing major change transform into a unified and breathing community? A community that knows its purpose. A community where people feel that each one of them has a voice that is heard and has an impact. 🖼 Snapshot 2 A 1:1 meeting in a sunny, cozy room. How can I bring more trust and safety into my life? At the heart of it all is self-awareness — being mindful of our own needs and how our actions affect others. By bringing back our humanity to the center, this is how we uncover solutions that often go unnoticed. 🖼 Snapshot 3 Inspiring architecture and a cozy workspace. A community with big ideas and a mission to revolutionize their field to make bigger impact in the society. During a coffee break with the leader, he wondered: How can I ensure my team’s well-being? What are we already doing well and what can we do more? When people feel supported, they can better serve those around them. 🖼 Snapshot 4 Warm conversations, joyful reunions and big ideas at the "Paradoxes of Lifelong Learning" conference (SA Kutsekoda/ Estonian Qualifications Authority). Keynote speaker Matt Sigelman highlighted how fast-paced technological changes are transforming the DNA of the jobs. Tanel Mällo asked in a panel: What does constant pressure for speed and productivity do to the DNA of human and humanity? Let's bring the people back to the center, and ask what they need. Everything else should be in their service. 🖼 Snapshot 5 Music, quiet chatter and excitement. My dear friend Tiina Sakkos presented her first book "Why Companies Change and How to Manage the Changes" (Äripäeva kirjastus). A book that was born out of an unexpected idea. A book that is an inspiring example of personal growth and development. Why do so many changes in organizations fail? Because they forget to bring the people to the center. Let's hurry slowly. 🎯 Let’s bring people back to the center. Because only then can we truly go faster, higher, further. 🎯 I feel like I'm in the right place. What an incredible evening spent with leaders from diverse backgrounds, discussing the future of work and how we can shape it to be more human-centric. 🌟 Thank you: Adwoa K. Buahene, AkB Talent Edge Beth Adams, Lumerate Jigna Shah, Deloitte Kirsten Eastwood, Dress for Success Toronto Michael Tweedie, ONxpress Transportation Partners Rodney Mano, CHRL, Mental Health Commission of Canada I was particularly inspired by Rodney's insights into skills matching to a project-based (gig) approach, which ensures optimal resource utilization. His perspective highlighted how we can embrace flexibility and innovation in workforce planning. Adwoa also provided a compelling view on how the AI age reshapes society, labour, and the economy, much like the Industrial Age. While the Industrial Age mechanized physical labour, AI automates cognitive tasks, opening up new opportunities and posing challenges such as privacy concerns and potential job displacement. Both eras have driven economic growth and globalization, but AI's rapid pace introduces complexities, particularly sustainability, that we must consider carefully. We had the privilege of hosting this dinner at the stunning Valerie Restaurant, located across the street from the Beanfield Centre, where we’ll be hosting the Belong Summit on September 4, 2025. Yesterday marked exactly one year away from this exciting event, where we’ll have leaders speak more broadly on these topics and share valuable insights.
