Extensive analysis of Aktrapid member insights over the years consistently underscores the pivotal role of 'Work-Life Balance' as a principal determinant shaping members' preferences when considering agency employment. Our research highlights the critical importance of achieving work-life balance, particularly within the realm of nursing agency work. Given the demanding and often unpredictable nature of nursing roles, healthcare professionals need to maintain harmony between their professional commitments and personal well-being. By offering autonomy over their schedules, agencies can empower members to proactively manage their work-life balance, thereby mitigating the risk of burnout. Overall our findings highlight the critical role of work-life balance in nursing agency employment. By understanding and addressing members' needs for balance, agencies can create environments that support well-being, satisfaction, and career longevity. Prioritizing work-life balance is not only beneficial for individual members but also essential for the success and sustainability of nursing agency operations as a whole. WELLBEING ALERT!!! On April 16, 2024, I presented this case report as part of my #Nursing #Administration and #Management course. It was from my final clinical posting where I faced a challenge. My exposure to the dynamic outpatient care where our clinic got about 50-100 visitors daily, differed from the familiar and controlled ward setting. Tasked with single-handedly assessing vital signs for a sea of patients armed with only one set of equipment available in the entire clinic. For 5 straight days! I battled stress due to the high disproportionate workload. It compromised timely assessments and increased my dissatisfaction with work. Perhaps, an extra set of equipment would’ve upped the nurse ratio. Then upon concluding my last shift, my CNO surprised me with a heartfelt gift. Her words: “You’re the first student in a while not to escape during work hours.” Accepting my reward, I smiled, knowing I’d been tempted. This experience sparked my passion for nurse’s wellbeing. In my report, I applied Carl Ludwig’s #SystemsTheory, highlighting the synergism between healthcare teams and environments. Key takeaways: 📝The hospital is an #OpenSystem. 📝Just like in homeostasis, an issue with one part of the system, affects the whole. 📝There has to be a constant and equitable feedback loop to restore optimal balance. 📝Adequate resources/equipment = Reduced staff burnout 📝Efficient workload allocation/management = Enhanced patient care By adopting this systematic approach, healthcare institutions can: 📌Ensure internal functioning aligns with tasks, technology, and the external environment while providing high quality services. I got inspired to reminisce on my report from recently observing nurse wellbeing advocates: Charlene Platon, Yetunde 🦋 Makinde and several of us who put immense effort in advocating against workplace toxicity. Thank you all😊. Share your thoughts: How can Nurses prioritize wellbeing at work? #NurseWellbeing #HealthcareManagement #BurnoutPrevention #QualityPatientCare

The term burnout has now become a staple for healthcare workers especially nurses post Covid Era. Post Covid because during the pandemic our energy were all stretched out to respond to the need of the community and so then after the virus settled the signs and symptoms of the burnout started coming and spreading like wildfires. Occupational burnout happens when the healthcare provider is being pulled in different directions while they are trying to get to a direction where their perceived priorities are. Competing priorities. First, it would create a feeling of dissatisfaction to the healthcare provider as they are unable to perform the care or provide services how they would like it to be and at the time they need to do it. Second, it creates a feeling of frustration for not having the help they need when they needed it. Third, as healthcare providers most are oftentimes struggling with putting themselves first before others thus, when they ask for a time off and not allowed to, it creates some kind of distrust. And with these burnout starts. Management support could mean the following: 1. Providing enough staff so that one doesn't have to do the work of 10 people at the same time. Clear cut job descriptions. 2. Enough supplies. Quality supplies. 3. Structured physical design of a workplace to help decrease the number of steps the staff takes to perform a task: easy access to medicine dispensers, wound care supplies, linens, etc. Get them process improvement officer or team follow a nurse or a doctor for a week and see how they can improve the process. Or how about ergonomic tables and chairs. Smart rooms, anyone? 4. Equipments that actually works and has ease of use. Phones that you can't see the numbers needs to be thrown away and replaced with new ones. 4. Leadership being accessible to the frontliners. We cannot feel your presence with an email. Schedule a day in your week to go walk the unit hallways. 5. Respect for personal time-off. No guilt-tripping staff responsibly taking the time off to create a work-life balance into coming in to work to fill the gaps of staffing. 6. Even kids do not want to be micromanaged. You hired us to do the job, you need to trust that we can get the job done. To do this: Develop a robust Talent Acquisition team matched with Highly Organized Onboarding team that personalizes the process instead of just giving out onboarding instructions that is mass tailored. 7. Zero tolerance for Bullying, Violence, Abuse of any form. One doesn't have to keep looking at their shoulder while providing care. What are the ways you have implemented in your facility to help decrease burnout amongst staff members?

With increasing demands on time, energy, and resources, health care professionals are experiencing burnout at increasingly higher rates and staff turnover continues to rise. Burnout leads to lower levels of staff engagement, patient experience, and productivity, and an increased risk of workplace accidents. Burnout also limits a providers’ empathy, a crucial component of effective person-centered care. Yet barely one-third (35%) of U.S. hospital workers said that current wellness programs encourage a healthier lifestyle. LeAnn believes healthcare givers are not burned out but drained out. The demands of nursing can take a significant toll on physical, emotional, and mental well-being. Here’s how organizations can make a profound difference: Prioritize Mental Health and Well-being 🧘♀️ - Regular Mental Health Check-ins: Implement regular mental health check-ins and provide access to counseling services. Normalize seeking help and create a stigma-free environment. - Stress Management Programs: Offer stress management programs, including mindfulness, meditation, and relaxation techniques. Encourage participation by integrating these programs into the work schedule. Promote Work-Life Balance ⚖️ - Flexible Scheduling: Introduce flexible scheduling options to allow nurses to better balance their professional responsibilities with personal commitments. - Adequate Rest Periods: Ensure adequate rest periods between shifts to prevent burnout. Consider longer breaks during shifts and mandatory time off after particularly demanding days. Foster a Positive Work Environment 🌼 - Recognition and Appreciation: Regularly recognize and celebrate the hard work and dedication of nurses. Simple gestures of appreciation can significantly boost morale. - Supportive Leadership: Train leaders to be supportive and empathetic. Encourage open communication and provide platforms for nurses to voice their concerns without fear of retribution. Enhance Workplace Safety 🛡️ - Safe Staffing Levels: Ensure safe staffing levels to reduce the workload and prevent nurse fatigue. Adequate staffing is crucial for both patient safety and nurse well-being. - Access to Safety Equipment: Provide all necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure a safe working environment, especially in high-risk areas. Helping tech teams improve work-related ill health | Applying a clinically led & data-informed approach so organisations can make a measurable impact on people, performance and profits | Innovator of the Year | Wellbeing
It's International Nurse's Day and I'm delighted that this year's theme is the 'Economic Power of Care' 🔥 Highlighting the economic and societal benefits from investing in our nurses and our future. Despite being the backbone of healthcare, nursing often faces financial constraints and societal undervaluation. This is exactly how I feel about how In-House Health Limited is viewed when it comes to investment and the societal value we will eventually make. Labelled and judged as part of the saturated and fluffy corporate wellbeing sector. I see people literally switch off when they hear the words employee wellbeing or workplace wellness. But we are not what you think when you think of those that have come before us. I read a post on here the other day that was asking start ups what impact they will have. From the outset my mission, vision and values have been clear. That comes from a lifelong nursing career. We are a health business in the wellbeing sector and that is challenging. As I enter my 23rd year as a nurse, I'll tell you from the bottom up what long-term impact we'll have: Improved health outcomes for individuals, our biggest mission is the prevention of long-term conditions and the workplace is the perfect arena to achieve this. Increased stability and long-term sustainability of businesses. We know that healthier people are more engaged and productive and we provide demonstrable evidence that this improves bottom-line profits. A huge cost saving to the NHS due to reduced illness, need for appointments and long-term treatments. An improved economy. The UK has the worst record ever in it's history for productivity. Long-term sickness absence accounts for 30% of economic inactivity. How we tackle these issues needs to be addressed, and in the right way. I can already see the government getting it wrong. There needs to be a huge cultural and mindset shift in this area. I'm not saying I have all the answers, but I've got a pretty good idea and my solutions identify the root cause of work-related ill-health, which is a great place to start. At In-House Health we believe in a world where prevention is key to maximising potential. For all of society. This International Nurse's Day I'm delighted that the theme is the 'Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care' I'll be doing more to highlight this throughout the year. This nurse can. And she will. I just need reminding of that sometimes 👊🔥 #Internationalnursesday2024 #IND24 #nurse #digitalnurse #healthtech

As a CNO, I see myself as a nurse to the nurses. To all my fellow healthcare leaders across all disciplines, I cannot emphasize enough how important it is to make your teams feel valued, appreciated and engaged. It doesn't matter whether we're talking about clinicians, administrators, volunteers or anyone else, there are many reasons to build a systemic program at your hospital, and this guide from American Hospital Association is a great resource for getting started: https://bit.ly/3Xd1ICf. #NurseWellbeing #HCPWellbeing #healthyworkculture #happyatwork
