This week's highlight: co-presenting at a master class on Design Thinking and Social Impact Entrepreneurship that encouraged students from across three colleges to develop solutions for a more sustainable fashion industry. 🌱 Our keynote speaker was Jasmine Aarons, the founder and CEO of VOZ, who applied what she learned about design thinking at Stanford to start a contemporary artisanal fashion and design company that creates sustainable opportunities for indigenous women. The unique collaboration between students of LIM College, Champlain College, and St. Francis College to tackle sustainability and social impact challenges in the fashion industry is the brainchild of Dr. Eda Sanchez-Persampieri, PHR, SHRM-CP, CPHR, Dean of Graduate Studies at LIM College and social entrepreneurship expert Dr. Marie Segares. The students shared lots of good ideas 💡on how to make fashion more sustainable and create a more ethical supply chain at all stages of the production process - from design to waste management. And Dean Dr. Esther Klein also stopped by! Aarons also noted a rising demand for sustainable, socially conscious fashion. Sustainable fashion is not mainstream (yet), but Gen Z may change that. According to research by Reda and Kapoor (2021), Gen Z and Millennial consumers make more sustainable or ethical purchases than any other generation. One of the hesitations has been style, or limited style choices in the past. Companies like VOZ are changing that! Victoria Prew has just announced a £10m raise for sustainable fashion brand, Hurr, and here’s why it speaks to the importance of a company having a high-profile founder👇🏼  1.⁠ ⁠How the press reported it - “Victoria Prew raises £10m”. Victoria is a high-profile founder. She’s of interest to any media being pitched the news. Press is people-led making it much easier to secure key titles because her name is attached to the story.  2.⁠ ⁠How people on social spoke about it.
 Any company announcement 99 times out of 100 is only shared by the people who are involved in your company, but 1 in 100 go further and are talked about by people who have nothing to do with your company. In this case, it was talked about on social because there’s an inspirational story to share - Victoria has previously spoken on the challenges of women raising VC funding and has now achieved a significant raise. 3.⁠ ⁠All this adds to increased exposure for the company through channels and stories that it would struggle to gain without a high-profile founder. To take it to the next level, Victoria could have been documenting the process of the raise on social - “Day 1 of trying to raise capital for Hurr when less than 2% of VC funding goes to female founders” - and taking people on social on the journey and then when the announcement is made that you’ve secured the raise, people will have felt they’ve seen the end of a hero’s journey story. I think Victoria is a really fascinating case of how to leverage a founder to help a company make more noise and gain more awareness 👏🏻

Week 5 Last week we created a logo for own own business ideas. This fits in with our assignment where we have to create a business idea which supports the circular economy and helping the environment.
