As per the World Economic Forum's Global Risks Report 2024, it is alarming to know that only 22% of women are working in AI. The #gendergap is resulting in a shortage of skills and experience which will not only slow down innovation but also lead to #discrimination against a certain gender. Women make up 49.6% of the world’s population and AI looks to serve everyone. Without a proportionate number of female engineers, researchers and developers in the artificial intelligence space, the products and services created are not going to be truly reflective of the way we all live. Collaboration between governments, academia, and businesses is crucial to foster research on bias detection and mitigation techniques. Furthermore, industry self-regulation can be encouraged through incentives and recognition for companies that actively strive to eliminate biases in their AI systems. Overall, a comprehensive strategy involving legal frameworks, industry cooperation, and public awareness is essential to rectify gender biases in AI systems and ensure the responsible development and deployment of artificial intelligence technologies.
