In 2019, only 11 percent of new apprenticeship program registrants were women. Unless Canada can get more women into the skilled trades, this trend will continue. Find out how support from our partner RBC is helping foster more young women in the skilled trades: https://lnkd.in/eE5dNAvJ #apprenticeship #womenintrades

Sector Engagement Lead at Enginuity. Working to bridge the skills gap in UK engineering and manufacturing.
Just over a month ago, I shared my work on the Apprenticeship Toolkit that I'm working on in collaboration with WISE. Our goal is to create resources that empower employers to better engage girls and young women, encouraging them to pursue #apprenticeships in #STEM. 💡 Needless to say I've been doing lots of digging into stats, figures and reports and it has been both eye-opening and challenging, especially as we strive to inspire the next generation to see STEM as a space where they belong. 📈 Here are some stats that reinforce the current gender disparity—and why providing representation, relatable role models, and inclusive information about pathways like apprenticeships are so critical to creating change in the industry: - In the UK, 700,000 women work in manufacturing, making up just 26% of the workforce. - Women represent 70% of administrative and secretarial roles, but only 9% in skilled trades. - Only 3% of women view a career in tech as their first choice, and 1 in 3 currently working in the industry are planning to leave. - A survey from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) revealed that only 8% of young people could name a woman—past or present—who made significant contributions to STEM. - In 2022/23, just 10% of those starting a construction apprenticeship were young women. - Only 12% of girls feel that being an engineer aligns with who they are, compared to 38% of boys. These numbers are just the beginning! While there has been progress, it's clear there's still so much more to do. In a few weeks I'll be attending the Women in Manufacturing: Changing Perceptions event in Coventry, and I’m so excited to hear from the inspiring women and allies who not only champion the industry, but the women who work within it. You can't quite beat the feeling of being in a room where every individual is committed to taking action and making change for the greater good! Together, we can continue to break barriers and transform the gender makeup of STEM. 💪💪 #DiversityInSTEM #WomenInSTEM #GenderEquality #STEMEducation #Apprenticeships #WomenInManufacturing

Coaching apprentices to help businesses bridge the digital and AI skills gap • I also coach grassroots youth football • Author of "New Business, Next Steps."
For this #InternationalWomensDay, I want to shine a spotlight on the incredible women embarking on apprenticeships across the UK. Whether starting a career or re-skilling, these apprentices are not just building their futures; they are paving the way for a more diverse and inclusive workforce. For example, during research for this post, I learnt that over a million women have now established themselves in STEM roles, yet constitute only 29% of the STEM workforce. While these numbers represent the many women who are breaking barriers and challenging norms, they also highlight the need for initiatives that encourage women to pursue STEM careers from a young age and challenge the male-dominated status quo. So, today - and always - let's celebrate the progress made and push for even greater strides in equality and representation. And to all the female apprentices out there: Here’s to you, the leaders, innovators, and trailblazers of tomorrow. 🎉 🚀 Happy #IWD2024 ♀ #womeninstem #FutureLeaders #Apprenticeships

A report from Protrade showed that more women are taking part in construction apprenticeship programmes. In 2022-2023, 10% of about 24,530 apprentices were young women. This was a 2% increase from the previous year. This is great news, but field experts are concerned about the Gen-Z of construction, who are deterred by the perceived male-dominance in the industry. Read more: https://bit.ly/3Tnhbxx We hope to see this number go up this year! What do you think companies can do to attract more women to construction? #ConstructionIndustry #WomenInConstruction #BreakingBarriers #ConstructionApprenticeship

Sector Engagement Lead at Enginuity. Working to bridge the skills gap in UK engineering and manufacturing.
🌟 Empowering the Next Generation: Girls into Apprenticeships 🌟 I'm just getting started on a new project in collaboration with WISE, dedicated to creating supportive and informative resources for employers to better engage with girls and young women to encourage them to embark on #apprenticeships in #STEM! The toolkit aims to break down the barriers that so often discourage girls and young women from exploring STEM fields, ensuring they have the support and encouragement they need every step of the way. But why does this matter?! - Representation: We need better visibility of female role models and to create environments where girls can see themselves in STEM roles. - Diversity drives innovation: Different perspectives lead to better solutions and creativity - a win for industry if you ask me. - Closing the gender gap: Equal representation across all industries is essential. - Progression: It's vital to ensure clear pathways for career development and progression, allowing girls and young women to see a long-term future in #STEM. - Engagement with the next generation: Building relationships with schools and communities to inspire the next generation is absolutely key. We have to get the message out there that apprenticeships are beneficial and accessible for all! 👉I'd love to hear your thoughts and views! What initiatives have you implemented to support #femaleapprentices in STEM? How have you adapted your recruitment processes or job advertisements to be more inclusive? What successful practices can others learn from? 🌍💡 #WomenInSTEM #STEMEducation #Inclusion #FutureOfWork #STEMCareers #GenderEquality #GirlsinApprenticeships
