We've seen progress and momentum in the movement for paid, professionalized community health workers--and we call on health leaders and partners to support women CHWs from their recruitment and training through their service and advancement. Simply put, health equity is not possible without gender equity. Gender equity in the community health workforce is not a given. That's why we stand with women CHWs and partners including Integrate Health this week at #UNGA79 to advocate for gender-responsive policies and practices at all levels of community health systems.

Women make up nearly 70% of the health and care workforce and provide essential health services for around 5 billion people worldwide and yet their contributions to health and the health labour market remain undervalued. This World Health Worker Week, women in health are still clustered into lower status, low paid, and often unpaid roles. This needs to change! Let there be gender and economic justice in the healthcare workforce! #jointhemovement

'Dreaming of a future of Gender-responsive Health Systems' The global health sector employs a significant number of women, with 70% of health and care workers and over 80% of community health workers being women. Despite this, gender inequities persist, relegating women to lower-status, lower-paid, and often unpaid roles. Key Priority area that requires intentional efforts are: - Ensure Gender Parity in Leadership positions - End Gender Inequities in the Health Workforce - Incorporate CHWs into the Formal Health Sector - Provide Safe and Decent Work Environments #GenderEquality #PublicHealth #WomenInLeadership #HealthWorkforce #CHWs #EconomicJustice

International Day of Action for Women’s Health (also known as International Women’s Health Day) is marked on May 28 by women and health organizations globally to educate people about women’s health and rights. The day fights against the social and gender disparities that violate women’s rights. This year, the focus will be on “Mobilising in Critical Times of Threats and Opportunities,” which emphasizes empowering women to make decisions independently, free from coercion and discrimination. In essence, this day serves as a poignant reminder that women deserve to live healthy, happy lives, free from abuse, discrimination, and violations of their rights. #InternationalDayofACtionforWomensHealth #28May #InternationalWomensHealthDay #womenshealthandrights #womenempowerment #WomensHealth #HealthForAll #EmpowerWomen #GenderEquality #healthandsafety #ResistandPersist #WomenHealthMatters #May28 #OurHealthOurRights #HealthForAll #WGNRR #GenderEquality #WomensHealth #EqualityForAll

As an advocate for all Victorian women and gender diverse people, Women’s Health Victoria acknowledges that it is hard not to be impacted by media coverage when so much of the news is focused on violence against women. Limiting exposure to media is just one way you can look after yourself, as well as other important self-care activities such as spending time with the people you care about. If you or someone you know needs support during this time, there are many services that can provide support, including Lifeline Australia, Beyond Blue, 1800RESPECT Australia, 13YARN and Q Life. #selfcare #womenshealth #mentalhealth

Serving as the majority in the healthcare industry, it is only fair that they can receive pay parity. In the fight for all, women are often forgotten as they are the ones at the headlines of the movement. After the regression in female bodily autonomy and equity, it has become vital that there be an improvement in the quality of female healthcare. #healthywomenforabetterworld
Why Women Community Health Workers? 👩⚕️ Constituting 70% of #CHWs globally, women are essential in delivering #HealthForAll, yet over 6 million are either unpaid or underpaid. During our recent #CSW68 side event with the Community Health Impact Coalition our panelists explored the economic and social impact of fair compensation for women CHWs, and spoke about policies and initiatives that ensure their right to decent wages and recognition of the value of their work.
