Certified Diversity and Executive Coach | Neurodiversity in the Workplace Instructor | Systemic Team Coach | Speaker | Certified Diversity and Inclusion Professional
It was an honor to speak to the passionate youth leaders of the Southeast Asia Youth Leadership Program (SEAYLP) this week on building a more equal, inclusive world. SEAYLP brings together 50 high school students and 10 adult leaders from Southeast Asia to Northern Illinois University for a three-week leadership program, operated by the Center for Southeast Asian Studies in collaboration with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs. As I shared the latest sobering data on global inequalities, I was amazed by their drive to take local action. These students didn't just listen - they came with thought-provoking questions! Their commitment to driving positive change on critical issues like gender equality, women's empowerment, sustainable economies, and more gives me so much hope. This generation of #EqualityChampions has the vision and potential to create a more equitable world for all people. Investing in initiatives like SEAYLP that uplift diverse youth voices is key to achieving true equality. I'm grateful to the organizers and the SEAYLP Team for the opportunity to play a small role in empowering these future changemakers. The work has only just begun, but I'm inspired by the powerful difference this next generation will make. Who's ready to support them as they lead the way? P.S. I would like to express my extreme gratitude to Christine Jocson, Juliana Shrestha (Wedu organizers), my fellow panelist Naw Khine Thazin Ni Win and the SEAYLP Team for the opportunity to play a small role in empowering these future changemakers. P.P.S If you are interested in the Global Statistics I shared with them, you can check this flipbook: https://bit.ly/44oydiy #YouthLeadership #EqualOpportunity #SocialImpact #DiversityandInclusion #WomenEmpowerment #GenderEquality #EducationForAll #SEAYLP2024 Image description: A blurred photo of the participants of the webinar as a background. In the middle is a screenshot of the panelists and participants with text that reads 'WeDu x SEAYLP 2024' followed by the text "Equality in Communities". The company logo is in the middle and the text 'Future Equality Champions" surrounded by a red heart outline.

Dynamic Executive with commercial and operations expertise combined with passion for talent development and gender equality
Today, the Ambassador Program (Development program to address gender equality) launched their 4-part workshop series on developing their Value Proposition. Bonnie Marcus guided the cohort in assessing self-promotion areas, revealing low scores in volunteering for high visibility projects. That made me reflect on a personal action plan inspired by the McKinsey & Company "Women in the Workplace 2023" report highlighting the "broken rung" issue, whereby women face their biggest hurdle when advancing to become a manager. For every 100 men promoted, only 87 women make that crucial first step. The plan I devised is a simple leadership strategy that anyone can implement. 1. Actively recognize talent in meetings or projects, especially diverse talent. 2. Reach out and engage with the talent, inquiring about their support systems (mentor, network) and development plans. 3. Many of the talent will express the need for assistance. This is the perfect opportunity to assist the individual and help them cross the broken rung. Knowing this talent is likely to want high visibility projects too, I will incorporate that into the ways to support the individual. I am sure you are in plenty of meetings this week. Give the 3-step process a try and help address the broken rung issue.

Olamide O.'s project shines a light on a big issue: not enough women, especially women of color, are in top jobs in companies. Despite people talking a lot about diversity and equality, the numbers are still low—only 4% of big company leaders globally are women of color. Olamide's work, which I had the pleasure of supervising, doesn't just throw stats at us. It digs into why this gap exists and what we can do about it. It's clear that Olamide is passionate about making sure women have the same chances to lead and is pushing for a world where companies aren't just talking about diversity but actually making it happen. Big thanks to the Laidlaw Foundation and Trinity College Dublin for backing this important work. I was honour to be able to connect Olamide to Dr. Harbeen Arora Rai and the G100: Mission Million group of exceptions global female leaders, who were a huge help to this work. It's a big deal and a call to action for businesses everywhere to step up and make real changes. Proud of what Olamide has achieved and excited to see where this research takes us all in making the corporate world a more inclusive place.

In the past decade, there has been an unmistakable paradigm shift in the level of understanding regarding the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), with a notable amount of attention diverting towards gender parity and the underrepresentation of females in executive and leadership roles. Despite this, in the top 100 S&P 500 companies, only 9% of CEOs are women. In Ireland, only 24% of C-suite roles are held by women. I am very excited to share the infographic highlighting the key findings and data analysis of the research I conducted on how organizations can overcome a deeper problem that lies within gender imbalances on management boards. This issue is the underrepresentation of women specifically from racial and ethnic minority groups in the C-suite. Globally, only 4% of these C-suite roles are held by women of colour. I am deeply passionate about empowering women to use their unique voices and talents to break through barriers and ascend to leadership roles. I truly believe in championing a future where diversity and equality are not just organizational “goals” but a concrete reality. A huge thank you to all the interviewees for making this research possible! Thank you to the Laidlaw Foundation and Trinity College Dublin for supporting me on this transformative journey.

“Women are not better leaders……..” As a woman, I vividly recall the electrifying moment when I contested and won the position of Students Union Government Vice President during my undergraduate years. It wasn't just about winning an election; it was about proving that women are capable leaders who can drive change and make a difference. In that role, I seized every opportunity to amplify the voices of my peers, advocate for gender equality, and initiate projects that uplifted our community. Utilizing the platform afforded to me, I implemented mentorship programs, organized workshops on leadership and empowerment, and spearheaded initiatives to address pressing issues facing students. Through dedication and resilience, I transformed challenges into stepping stones, laying the foundation for a future where women are valued as equals and leaders in every sphere of society. My journey taught me invaluable lessons: the power of perseverance, the importance of continuous education, and the undeniable strength found in unity. Today, I stand as a testament to what is possible when women refuse to settle for mediocrity and instead choose to strive for excellence in every endeavor. I urge my fellow women to embrace their potential, to seek knowledge relentlessly, and to seize opportunities with unwavering confidence. Let us challenge the status quo, break barriers, and redefine the narrative of what it means to be a woman in this world. Together, we possess the resilience, intelligence, and compassion to create a brighter future for ourselves and generations to come. So, let us rise, let us shine, and let us empower each other to achieve greatness. The world awaits our brilliance, and it's time to show them what we're made of🔥🔥🔥 #womeninleadership #breakingbarriers #leadingwithpurpose CHISOM UKOHA
