"What does #femaleentrepreneurship mean for you?" - with this question I opened the introductory workshop for 20 female managers from Mexico who embarked on a market exploration journey towards business with Germany. As participants of the programme "Partnering in Business with Germany" funded by our Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Klimaschutz implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH this very special group consists of dedicated female entrepreneurs from the agricultural sector. As producers, processors and traders they are looking for business opportunities in Germany and will be trained and consulted by us at IMAP GmbH before they come to Germany September 1st-14th. The first endorser of our European Agenda for Inclusive Entrepreneurship is none other than Alexander De Croo, Belgian Prime Minister and leader of the Belgian Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2024. THE POWER OF SUPPORT Did you know? Women-led businesses are significantly more likely to succeed when they receive targeted support from incubators and accelerators tailored to their unique challenges. We hosted an insightful webinar in collaboration with MUVA, focused on the pivotal role of incubators and accelerators in supporting women-led businesses. The session was expertly facilitated by Manuel Lélio Alberto Gungulo, Project Manager at MUVA, and featured contributions from industry leaders Susan Chembe, Women Entrepreneurship Advocate; Sofia Dias Cassimo, Chapter Head - Mozambique at AfricanWIB; and Kabwe K. Phiri, Growth Catalyst at GrowthAfrica. Key takeaways from the webinar: ✔Intentional support for women-led businesses: It is crucial for accelerators to adopt intentional strategies tailored specifically to the needs of women-led businesses, avoiding a one-size-fits-all approach. ✔Defining impact indicators: Well-defined impact indicators are essential when working with businesses. These metrics help measure success and ensure that the support provided aligns with the unique needs of each business. ✔Listening and adding value: Accelerators should prioritise understanding each entrepreneur’s individual challenges and gaps, enabling them to provide tailored support that adds value on a personal level. ✔Addressing financial access challenges: Women-led businesses often face significant barriers in accessing finance. Accelerators should assist WSMEs in identifying suitable funding sources that match their specific needs. ✔Fostering peer-to-peer and community learning: Encouraging peer-to-peer learning and building strong community networks is vital for boosting confidence and creating a supportive environment for women entrepreneurs. The Power of Networks and Advisory Support for Female Entrepreneurs💫 Last week, we shared some key insights from the "Achieving Scale: Breaking Through Barriers for Female Founders" report by the Advisory Board Centre, highlighting the incredible growth and unique challenges faced by female founders. This week, we dive deeper into the critical role of support networks and advisory services for female entrepreneurs. The report reveals essential insights into the support networks crucial for female entrepreneurs. Despite the remarkable increase in female-founded businesses, the journey to scale is fraught with challenges. Networking and advisory support emerge as vital elements in this journey, yet many female founders struggle to access high-quality advice and networks. The study shows that female founders are more likely to seek help from generalist coaches and consultants, with only 57% seeking specialist advisors. This gap underscores the need for a robust support ecosystem encompassing government, investors, business groups, professional service providers, advisors, and personal supporters. These stakeholders play a crucial role in advancing female entrepreneurship and driving economic and social impact. Moreover, the report emphasizes the importance of building a supportive network that can provide tailored advice and resources. Achieving scale requires deliberate, informed decision-making and meaningful action. With 97% of female founders planning to grow their businesses, it is essential to create an environment that fosters their ambitions and helps them overcome barriers.
