NHS cancer care is facing a critical moment. A report from The Lancet Oncology identifies 10 key challenges in the current system and suggests practical, low-cost solutions to help tackle these urgent issues both now and in the future. 💡 Achieving success, however, requires a comprehensive cancer plan that recognizes the importance of well-functioning systems, rather than relying solely on new technologies or treatments. 🏥 💉 Alongside investment in staff and infrastructure, 👩⚕️🏗️ we must also focus on research to improve the delivery of current treatments in a timely, fair, and efficient way. Only then can the NHS enhance cancer outcomes and patient care. ❤️ #NHSCancerservices #sustainableworkforce #Oncology #NHSjobs

I am delighted to have had the opportunity to speak about MSD’s #Icount #TripleNegativeBreastCancerMatters (#TNBC) campaign in this article. Data is crucial to unlocking better breast cancer outcomes. This is why our campaign is calling on policymakers to close the TNBC data gap so that patient experiences and outcomes can be better understood – and where necessary, improved https://lnkd.in/eVQgfcBv
Last year, we launched the #Icount #TripleNegativeBreastCancerMatters campaign to ensure that people with #TNBC feel that they count and are being counted. Internationally, TNBC makes up around 10-20% of new breast cancer diagnoses. In England, we do not know how many people have TNBC due to the lack of accurate data. To understand TNBC better, and to ensure support gets to those most in need, we are calling on policymakers to close the TNBC data gap. Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. With that hard-hitting statistic in mind, the focus can too often be on how the latest data are contributing to changing this trend on a global scale. As we approach World Cancer Day and these statistics are brought into focus, it’s important to continue to emphasize that behind each of these numbers is a person living with cancer, each with their own unique experience and perspective. This is particularly true for advanced pancreatic cancer, which is not only a complex and aggressive cancer, but also has the lowest survival rate of all cancer types globally; shocking statistics which can overshadow the real-life impact. For Hector, when he received a metastatic pancreatic cancer diagnosis in 2021, his wife Nora took on the role of his caregiver and advocate, and together they decided they would not give-up in the face of this difficult diagnosis. Hector and Nora’s story emphasizes their belief in the power of positivity, something we can all draw inspiration from. #WorldCancerDay #CloseTheCareGap #PancreaticCancer

According to The American Cancer Society, the five-year survival rate for Black pancreatic cancer patients is 2% lower than it is for other patients. This disparity may be traced back to larger issues within our healthcare system and society in general. But, until changes are made, Black patients must continue to advocate to ensure they get the care they deserve. In our latest article, we discussed some of the barriers and what patients can do to help overcome these barriers. https://lnkd.in/e6VQWr5E
