🌟 Celebrating Dorset Blind Association : A Beacon of Hope and Support 🌟 Dorset Blind Association, serving the beautiful county of Dorset, is a testament to resilience and dedication in aiding individuals with visual impairments. This incredible organisation is committed to helping those with a range of visual challenges, from minor impairments to complete blindness, empowering them to lead independent and fulfilling lives. 🤍 The Association's work is pivotal in providing practical and emotional support to those affected by sight loss. They create an environment where individuals can overcome the challenges of visual impairment and embrace life's opportunities with confidence and independence. ✨ One of the Association's key strengths is its ability to adapt and innovate. Recognising the diverse needs of their members, they have embraced a variety of methods to connect and support their community. This outreach is vital, particularly for members who are homebound or live in remote areas. By ensuring that no one is left behind, they have created a support network that is both far-reaching and deeply impactful. 🏡 The Association's journey, especially during challenging times, is a remarkable story of overcoming obstacles to continue providing critical services. Empower Your Mind, Empower Your Community! 🌟 "You don’t have to control your thoughts. You just have to stop letting them control you." — Dan Millman This powerful quote reminds us that while we may not have control over every fleeting thought that crosses our minds, we do have control over how we respond to them. Just like in life, where we face challenges and uncertainties, it's essential to recognize that we have the power to choose our actions and responses. The FY25 budget passed by the Georgia House of Representatives today includes $5.6 million to annualize funding for a new Behavioral Health Crisis Center in Fulton County. This new facility will open this spring as the result of a unique partnership fueled by resources from state, federal and county governments. The leaders making this facility a reality are aligned with one purpose -- saving lives and restoring hope. Our Fulton County team is so grateful for our partnership with Georgia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities, Grady Health System, House appropriations, and the entire Fulton County legislative delegation. A very special thanks is owed to Speaker Pro Tem Jan Jones for her leadership in securing full funding for this important facility. We can't wait to for you to see it in action. #HelpIsHere #HopeIsReal

Another reason to join NASW: https://lnkd.in/gseDFBDd It was my honor and privilege to be able to attend the National Association of Social Workers' national conference in Washington, D.C. this past week, and to present, with Executive Director Christopher McLaughlin and President Julie Schirmer, information about "How to Energize Your Board of Directors: A focus on Advocacy, Collaboration, and Leadership." Together we worked with many kinds of Boards, including an equestrian service provider for mental health, other NASW Boards, and financial boards, to name a few. The dialogue was engaging, and we all learned from each other. Some key takeaways included knowledge about who your board represents, and what they care about as beginning steps toward effectiveness. We utilized information from High Performance Boards, by Didier Cossin, and Successful Community Leadership and Organization, by John E. Tropman, along with other resources, to share information about the Four pillars of high-performance boards: People Information and architecture Structure and processes, and Group dynamics as a gateway to group sessions which benefited each of us in the room. Together, we shared stories of successes, as well as areas for growth. Through this process, I was reminded - yet again- that we are stronger together and fare better when we learn from one another.

Is this another name change for the sake of it? Community Planning Partnerships (CPP) If you don’t know what it is, it will be a good idea to find out in your area. It is an alliance of Public and Private Services, Local Authorities, and Communities to co-produce and deliver better services that truly impact people’s lives by reducing inequality and enhancing community well-being. This is a gathering of variety of stakeholders in Lincolnshire to look at data, identify what people need (not just what people want) to ensure tailored solutions. By collaborating, CPPs tackle disparities head-on. They channel resources where they’re most impactful, bridging gaps and fostering equity. It is not possible without - Inclusive Decision-Making - Local Priorities - Diverse Perspectives - Shared Ownership - Mobilising Resources We have Lincolnshire County Council, Public Health, Data Intelligence, PCNs, St Barnabas Hospice, ICB, Age UK, Carers, EMAS, Acute and Community Hospital Trusts, Mental Heath Trust, Patient representative and this is just the start. We intend to make it transformational! We are just starting and I'll keep you posted. #cpp #collaboration #healthinequality #inclusion #nottransactional

In the February 2024 Housing & Health issue of Health Affairs, Kierra Barnett of Nationwide’s Children’s Hospital and her team of coauthors document the history of structural racism in Linden, a neighborhood in Columbus, Ohio. Linden is a neighborhood characterized by high rates of unemployment, crime, and disparities in maternal and infant health outcomes. The authors contextualize these disparities through an exploration of 100 years of discriminatory state and local policies, particularly those related to housing, that have shaped health in Linden, Ohio. These policies include racial deed restrictions, redlining, blockbusting, mass incarceration, and the subprime lending crisis. Barnett and coauthors advocate for structural racism- and discrimination-informed strategic community development initiatives to promote lasting change in Linden.
