Women Empowerment Council’s Post

On May 9, #GirlsinSTEMM (GIS) visited 埃克森美孚中国 ExxonMobil China's Shanghai technology center. Twenty-one girls from Dulwich College Shanghai Pudong and Nord Anglia International School Shanghai Pudong toured three labs and participated in speed networking with six ExxonMobil employees. They learned about ExxonMobil's research efforts and the diverse team behind its products. The visit began in the exhibition hall, showcasing ExxonMobil's footprint in China. The #technology center showcased its R&D, testing, and processing capabilities. Senior students were keen on test procedures and reactions, while younger students found the terms and setups challenging. Lab tour leaders prepared interactive products to engage students. The girls were surprised to see the production process of everyday items. A student noted that ExxonMobil's labs illustrated the journey of a product from raw state to market-ready. A tour leader emphasized that #DEI is a collective effort at ExxonMobil, involving all employees beyond their official roles. Students connected with employees from diverse #STEMM backgrounds through speed networking, discussing career paths, STEMM course selection, and work experiences. Haiyin Hua advised students to pursue what they want and embrace learning opportunities, even in junior roles. The visit concluded with Technology Planning Manager Hedy Fan encouraging students to explore STEMM fields and develop problem-solving, critical thinking, and planning skills. Finally, we extend our appreciation to the ExxonMobil Shanghai team for their support and to the teachers and faculties at Dulwich and Nord Anglia for their responsiveness and accommodation.
