"Hi, I'm New Wei Xuen, an Environmental Engineering student at Curtin Malaysia.    “Despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, I sought opportunities to engage in campus life, joining initiatives ranging from environmental advocacy to cultural festivals. “That passion to be actively involved in university journey continues to this day. I have actively participated in various events, clubs, and committees, which has provided me with valuable learning experiences.    “Participating in extracurricular activities has not only enhanced my academic understanding, but also helped me develop essential skills such as leadership, teamwork, and social responsibility. Each experience broadened my horizons and deepened my commitment to be an engaged member of the university community, and making a positive impact on society. “Reflecting on my time at Curtin Malaysia thus far, I am grateful for all the opportunities to learn, grow, and contribute to both the university and wider community. These experiences have complimented my academic studies, shaped me into a more conscientious and engaged individual, but this journey of growth and making meaningful contributions will not end when I graduate from this university. 🇵🇸📖Reflecting on my enriching first semester at #SIUE as a #Fulbright student, I've delved into foundational aspects of international studies. These academic pursuits, however, are juxtaposed against the backdrop of my family enduring the war in #Palestine. Their resilience fuels my determination, reminding me of the profound importance of my journey. Now, as I embrace the second semester, my focus extends to understanding organizational culture, dissecting the nuances of capitalism and colonialism, and mastering the art of persuasion and social influence. Balancing academic rigor with the emotional weight of current events underscores the delicate dance of personal and professional growth. Amidst theories of communication, exploration of international organizations, a seminar in PR strategy, and an in-depth survey of health communication, I've laid a robust groundwork. Some of the key Learnings from the First Semester: 🔻Explored communication theories, laying a foundation for understanding global interactions. 🔻Dived into international organizations, gaining insights into their structures and functions. 🔻Explored the intricacies of PR through a seminar, honing my strategic communication skills. 🔻Surveyed health communication, understanding its vital role in diverse cultural contexts. I eagerly await the opportunities that lie ahead, with a commitment to channeling my knowledge into making meaningful contributions on the international stage. While performing PA duties for Adebimpe Amigun FNSE, FNIMechE, COREN Registered last thursday, I got the opportunity to attend the Online Seminar organized by APWEN Futa Colleglates on "Building a Foundation of Professional Integrity: Women's Contribution to the Engineering World" During this seminar with Female Engineering Students at Federal University of Technology Akure, APWEN Akure Chairman Adebimpe Amigun FNSE, FNIMechE, COREN Registered discussed some small scale engineering practices for female engineers and how they can do these things even while in the university to build valuable experiences and prepare for a better future. She shared this while also highlighting ways to get access to opportunities like being a part of the association as students and the number of students in the association and in attendance was quite impressive. The impact of programs and mentorships like these further reemphasize the need for Mentorship and industry programs for students and even graduates in various sector and how this does not only help shape the future of such sector but also gives the participants the much needed clarity to make informed career decisions. Which is why I am grateful for what HEDDA's Diplomatic Career Mentorship Center (HDCMC) is doing for International Relations and Diplomacy Students and Graduates and how it has helped me to find clarity in my career path. This is a delayed welcome to Julienne Vivero, she joined the team as an intern in 2022, now making her way through the University again to keep growing. Julienne is our Research Scientist, who has come to show us that we are not alone in understanding that engineering and process control is not a tool for efficiency, but for improving quality of life. We have learned to work closely together and from far away, always with a clear view of the contribution we aim to make on society. We are invited to not lose We are invited to undefined, but I don’t know what is fate as walking I became what I am, joining those that stand, look up and hug to grow "Growing up in the Philippines, where the living standards are not the best for some, then having the chance to study in New Zealand, I started to realise how the call to solve problems that humanity faces in the world today can be answered using our acquired skills and knowledge along with collaboration with others to develop innovative solutions. My career goal as an Engineer is to help improve people's living conditions and contribute to developing a sustainable future, so I am blessed to be working with a company with the same vision. A world in transition! Yesterday I was supporting as a host the Amsterdam Chemistry Innovation Day. A conference and career fair at the science park in Amsterdam called: "A world in transition”, where academia, students and industry came together. I am always amazed about the energy and commitment during these events, when people come together with a purpose and mindset of connecting, sharing, learning and openness to discuss different points of view. Over 350 registrations and 20+ speakers from the academia and the industry and 15 companies on the jobmarket. A learning experience with discussions and insights about science in chemistry, health and its applications to contribute to a more sustainable world. Circular economies, CO2 Valorisation, Renewable energy, Food transition, Biocatalysts the promise and practice, Tea industry transition, The port of Amsterdam, waste recycling and Quantum horizons. So much fascinating and promising science, business start ups and business implementations at scale. A dynamic vibe! But also critical questions and self reflection about the impact we are making, the speed of transition, availability of innovation and the constraints and challenges in the environments we operate in. There needs to be a problem to be resolved, what and whose problem are we resolving? What does zero carbon really means? Science and technology innovation is one, but awareness and the change in human behavior and creating the right environment to innovate is probably as important to accelerate.
